A pair of 980gtx SLI not running fully in this game

Hi. i have the latest Nvidia drivers which are 347.09 and running the most up to date game version of v1.6 of this game.

The issue i am having is that whilst playing the game, both my GPU load uses only half of its power which effectively means i am kind of using just one 980gtx to run this game.

as a result, at 2560x1600 res, i only get around 40fps with every graphics settings maxed out.

At my resolution and the GPU power i have, i should be running this a lot better but it seems this game refuses to use the full load of my graphics card.

Other games tend to use the full load of my graphics card so dont think it is a driver or hardware issue.

Here are the rest of my specs

    Intel core i7 920 clocked at 4ghz

    9gb DDR3 Ram

    850w corsair Gold edition PSU.

    Hope someone can help me.

    Kind regards

I'm running two 980s and staying above 60 fps @ 2560x1440. When you enable the SLI display, does it show the green bars maxing out?

A side note, I had an i7 940 that I couldn't get to run for sh1t on anything with my 980s, and upgraded my mobo and processor to an i7 5930k.

It sounds like you think, or know, the cards are only being used at around half capacity. What are you basing that on? FPS?

    Here are a few thoughts.........

    1) Far Cry 4 has some very un-optimized settings. Putting everything to Ultra just doesn't make sense. AA is a framerate hog, or buggy in SLI, as an example. Try my settings below.

    2) You do have a bridge on your cards, right?

    3) I have 2 GTX 970s in SLI with my settings below and am getting around 80-90 FPS. AND I think it looks great. That's subjective, of course.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When 1.6 came out I set everything back to default in FC4 and my Nvidia Control Panel, then I applied the changes below. The game runs great for me now and looks great as well.

Using 2x GTX 970s in SLI.

    Nvidia Driver 347.09
    Game version 1.6.0
    2x GTX 970
    i7 5820
    16 gb ram
    Windows 8.1

Prior to 1.6.0 I had a lot of tweaked settings. Now I am running with all to default in Nvidia Control Panel and in game, except as noted below. These settings give me the best FPS to visual balance, from my perspective.

Nvidia Control Panel - Power Management - Max Performance
    SLI Rendering

    Notes on Settings Below
Left is range to use. Right (parens) is my recommendation.
Lower than recommended range takes a visual hit or no fps gain. Higher than recommended range makes no visual difference or is a big fps hit.

    In Game:
    Triple Buffer (Off)
    Vsync (Off)

Motion Blur (Off) not a fan
Textures – Ultra (Ultra) no lower than high
Shadows – Soft Shadows to High (Very High)
Post FX – Ultra to Medium (High) bogs combat
Geometry – Ultra to High (Ultra)
Vegetation – Ultra to High (High) Not much difference between the two
Terrain – Ultra to High (Ultra) no lower than high
Water – Ultra to High (Very High)
Environment – Ultra to High (High) doesn’t matter much between the two
Ambient Occlusion-HBAO to SSAO (Off) Preference. Play with it.
    Anti-Aliasing - (Off)
Godrays – Enhanced or Off (Enhanced)
Fur – On to Off (Off) 15 fps hit when on.
Trees Relief – On to Off (Off) extremely minor visual.

    AA Notes:
I prefer in-game AA off, and set it up in Nvidia Control panel (paragraph below).
In game AA results in this:
    -TXAA4 15 fps hit
-TXAA2 a large hit as well.
-MSAA working now, no flickering. performance hit.
-SMAA causes Artifacts in SLI. I found Off best, and I experimented a lot. Use SMAA for single video cards.

I set a few things in NVCP:
    Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
    Antialiasing - FXAA: On
Antialiasing Mode: Enhance the application setting
    Antialiasing Setting: 4x
    Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames: 4

A bit of pre info: My 5930k is my first desktop Intel CPU EVER. I've been a loyal AMD CPU user for nearly 2 decades.. but they decided to stop caring about us enthusiast users so I went intel this time. So I'm an Intel noob so to speak.

That said, if I had to take a stab at what your problem may be I would have to say it might be time to start looking at a mobo/processor upgrade. I run this game at 5760x1080 and mostly max settings (no MB, AA, tree relief, fur on, ultra shadows(because soft are broken)) and keep pegged at 60fps most of the time. All 3 of my GPUs are usually sitting around 80% give or take. It has been my experience over the years when GPUs don't get used fully when other peoples are it tends to point to a bottleneck and that is usually the CPU. Even with all the patches I still end up with one of my cores maxed out most of the time.

Could be wrong, not super familiar with your processor family (Intel noob) other than it is 6ish years old and that is pretty old as far as PC tech goes.
