    Wingsuit mod

With all of these awesome modders on these forums, wouldn't it be awesome if someone could code the singelplayer-wingsuit. Like make it fly closer to the ground without deploying (Jvarnes mod does this, but even more would be nice), but also a lot more smother when flying downwards, disable the annoying thing where you fly down then up-down-up-down.....and so on, which feels terrible.

I particularly don't like using the Wingsuit that much because the maneuvering isn't that intuitive for me. You're right, going down feels very hard and many times I've crashed against trees because turning is very clumsy and slow. But then again, I've never used a Wingsuit in real life so I wouldn't know if this is "realistic" maneuvers. I like how Ubisoft did the cliff climbing controls. Very easy without any frills and it feels fun and natural. Same with the Buzzer, the controls are very easy and not a simulation-like controls like Arma 2.

I'd be happy if up just actually took you up, vs having to drop a fair bit first and up only working directly thereafter to just level you off a bit.

I don't mean up like a hang glider would, since obviously a wingsuit doesn't have the same glide properties, but clearly as is it's nearly useless. They didn't get even the glider's up function right. It's about as equally broken.

Everything in Arma feels like climbing up a mountain with a fridge tied to your back and a ball and chain around your feet. I wouldn't sacrifice fun for realism, especially not in Far Cry.
Don't get me wrong, it's awesome.. but it's not the type of fun most of us want in a game. Easy controls are always nice.

By the way, climbing... notice how Ajay can throw the same hook and rope he's hanging in, up to another point on a rock wall, never missing.

Edit: Now it looks like I'm arguing with you, I'm really not.

Lol, don't worry. I know exactly when someone is pushing my buttons. ^^

As for "how Ajay can throw the same hook and rope he's hanging in, up to another point on a rock wall, never missing", yeah, I found that so cool and it's one of the reasons why I think cliff climbing in FC4 is so much fun. I think I said in another thread that not all "realistic" mechanics are suited for every type of game. Ubisoft did the right thing in making the climbing mechanics user-friendly since that activity was going to be an important part of the game.

IMO, a game's "realism" should NEVER extend to character movement. Never. Not even for Arma. There's nothing "realistic" about piloting a human body with a mouse and keyboard, and making basic movements and actions extremely difficult is not "realistic" at all. Last time I tried Arma it took me multiple attempts to just climb a ladder. There is nothing realistic about a marine not being able to climb a ladder. That's the opposite of realism.

One thing I like about Far Cry is that it doesn't (too much) artificially restrict movement. In many games you can't even climb slight inclines. That's insane. Real people can climb very steep surfaces. FC gets this mostly right... freedom of movement is a good thing. Games like Witcher 2 drive me crazy will invisible walls!

The wingsuit has a lot of coding that I haven't been able to alter unfortunately. Hopefully someone else will puzzle it out.

I'm equally annoyed by not being able to pitch up with it (or at the very least in the hang gliders) like you could in FC3.

It also seems to autodeploy with the shift key no matter what I try to reassign it to or even just removing it completely... leading to many unnecessary face plants when just trying to run down a damn hill. Frustrating.

I agree that Ubisoft did a good job in not encumbering your movement. I'm not really a first person shooter expert but it seems that "realistic" mechanics for running and whatnot can destroy the fluidity of the game pace. The last thing one wants, in my view, is cumbersome simulation-like mechanics in games that are high paced. In RPG games, which tends to be slower paced, things change, however. Hardcore rpg fans want realism whatever that means. Skyrim was criticized by veterans of the TES series as being CoD-like; like a rpg shooter, shallow without "realistic" gameplay. The running in that game felt as fast as you were riding a bicycle. Some modders made mods to decrease the speed of running and swimming.

I like realistic mechanics but I also don't like it when it destroys the fluidity and the fun of the game. As you know, there are many people who love and find it fun games like Arma 2, and find games like FC as Rambo-like and boring. Different tastes I suppose.

With such of a good game one would wish modding it would have been easier or even supported by the Devs. Oh well, I appreciate your time Jvarnes, have been running Far Cry 4 with your hardcore mod since released. Though It would be nice to have longer night/day circles like your other mod packages, adds great realism I believe. Also, is it possible to perhaps increase the enemy loot just a little, as refiling ammo seems to burn through my wallet. Felt like I've looted hole of Kyrat. But not that big of a deal. Anyhow, how is the next Hardcore update coming out? I'm really excited! Keep up the awesome work!
