    Building on fusion

Hi guys happy new year all

Something puzzled me the other day and i thought a topic of discussion would be a good way to source an answer. My query is why dont some builders create on fusion who use to create before. I understand all the frustration with the change in theme but if people like creating then i don't really see this as i big problem. I can on a riders point of view where they want to ride a type of track that is similar to what they like in style of the theme that they once liked. I can understand where the basic foundations of fusion may be flawed , with its glossy futuristic look and some building materials that just look alittle bland are very awkward to work with but since then there has been multiple dlcs in which have held alsorts of different building aids. People have proven that tracks can still be made and fit into the old style theme as we here this mentioned alot if a track is old looking or has a worn style to it.

I guess my thoughts are that does it really matter what tools there is to work with , the fact that the editor is still the same or i have heard somewhat better now and the fact that the main point about making tracks is having an imagination and making allsorts of different themed tracks. I see that we are able to do this with all the editor materials in fusion and i dont understand where some might say they are not working with all materials provided within the game. Of course some materials just dont cut the mustard but still it does puzzle me as to why creators who use to create stop doing so or just dont bother. Maybe its the time aspect and people get bored of it but it would be good to find out why alot dont create anymore or refuse to in fusion as there doesnt really seem to be a valid point. Being that creators build because its fun , its rewarding and the editor is amazing. This however has nothing to do with the game its self just on a building side and just wondered why people have stoped or dont create. maybe its the lose in downloads or the fact that some creators can only create within one theme. I dont know just thought it would be a good topic to discuss.

Please dont think i am saying anything regarding other games or this one infact , just wanted to find out people thoughts on why people stopped building and so forth.

    cheers

Notice no massive essay lol , just a short story muahahahaha

I stopped building because I didn't like the objects in the editor. You can be creative and make many themes but its a lot of work to make it look good. Also a lot of the objects are not smooth so glitching and landing isn't great.

A lot of players do still build, you just got to remember, all the recent platforms have Fusion now, so the community is massively divided. That's why RL have made X Platforming and Recommended builders as a new thing to add to this so people get to see other creations.

As for themes, they can still be made, sometimes it can be difficult to know where to begin because of the tracks areas. Sometimes it's hard to cover up some of the distant stuff and move forward and stick to it.

The future theme isn't for me either but I can tolerate it, I still manage to get enjoyment from the challenge of making a track stand out above others, I prefer to work with realistic nowadays stuff, but try to make it blend with a futuristic touch. That's what I did with my first track anyhow.

I will go all out on trying a full on futuristic theme soon but I just prefer making standard themes to what we would see in real life today.

Maybe some people can't move on or feel as though it's time is up and people have got bored of it all. Either that or real life has taken its course on them and they've had other matters involved.

Could be anything, but I wouldn't let that bother you too much Funk.

    hi shakey

Yeah i also find the clicthing on the pixels when trying to join things , specialy really flat surfaces but if the problem persists and wont settle i just usually find something to cover it up if possible.

    hi nova

Im not bothered as such was just wondering as i read of lot of times that people dont wanna create anymore because the game has changed , really just a topic of discussion more than anything. I guess i would imagine is that its most like down to just normal life as you say and like most things they eventually grow tiresome. Even though its a futuristic themed game i also find it very hard to create within that main theme its self. It can either become too futuristic and look like a red dwarf spin off or not futuristic at all. You have to get the balance and type of decor right for it to work i think. I like to try and work within a realistic world. I hate it when someone uses an electric wire for the bike to ride on ( as if that would hold a bike lol. I say go for the future themed one , if pulled off right they can be an awsome piece of work.

Im working on 2 tracks at the moment , both completly the opposite which i find helps when making tracks. I do however make double saves of them as i saved over one once which was over 100 hours work..lol

Cheers for the replies guys , good luck on your future themed trrack nova and why not give building a bash again shaky , not sure what platform you guys are on but its always good to play the crosplatforms. Love to see whats inside peoples imagination from different places.

Ya I don't know why a lot of people have stopped making tracks. Even with all of the negative feedback I still feel like the overall game got a lot better. I mean you can make things so much more complex. I also just do skill games tho and it does not seem like very many people are into that either anymore. I personally will never stop playing this game untill another one comes out of course.

For me the same thing happens. Games keep coming out but i just keep going back to trials. There hasn't been a game since Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas that has held my attention like the Trials Series. And to think I hesitated buying HD when I found out about it. Would have been the biggest mistake ever.

I consider a lot of things when I get an idea. The types of tracks that are popular, the world location, can I do it without expansion objects/particular objects, music & sounds available, and so on. Fusion has many terrains and a water brush that covers the entire map, unlike Evo's preset sizes. But Evo has winding and rectangle shapes to work with. Each game has it's signature bike (Donkey/Quad), the platforms are thicker in Fusion and more vehicles (albeit really ugly ones ). Evo has smaller pieces for details, while Fusion has a greater selection of buildings that aren't cubes..

I don't like building in fusion as I did in evo, despite some of the improvements that the powerful hardware provides. I said this on day 1; trials fusion's editor as a whole almost requires you to be a creative professional to make diverse themes. Evolution had FANTASIC range in this regard. With just a little creativity, you could make a wide variety of things; ancient, old, current, futuristic, cartoony, real, hot, cold, dirty, clean or any combination etc. the diverse pieces in evo's editor, it made it crystal clear what pieces could be used to fullfil a vision. In fusion, everything is so similar, and stylized for a futuristic gleam, it's extremely hard to find believable ways to use those things for other themes. Yes, it CAN be done. But again, it takes extraordinary talent, skill, time, and/or devotion.

My motivation just isn't in this one. In evo, I largely felt my limitations to the quality of my work was dependent on the time and effort I was willing to put forth to really make something great. In fusion, my abilities feel so constricted, despite having several hundred hours of practice, and it makes me feel like I lack any talent. This is not good for a sandbox game. I can only imagine how rough a journey new builders have with this game. Redlynx needs to put a lot more resources into making the building experience more accessible. That needs to be done in two major ways:

    1. A comprehensive collection of objects, big, small, and of all kinds of colors and textures to cover a broad range of themes and looks. Customization parameters for a lot of objects helps to. Fusion seemed to be lacking that in so many objects, unlike evo.

    2. Nurture the players creative energy. How you get players engaged in the building process when they're new to it is extremely important. You can't just throw them into the wild and expect many to survive. Fusion lacked a lot of the tutorial prowess that evo had. The YouTube vid series for evo was excellent. Fusion is similar but I imagine a new player would have to work harder to make connections from the evo vids to fusion. The one thing I can think of to improve those videos is to add examples of how some things can be used to make substantial things( the programming logic comes to mind). A new builder needs to understand more than just what a tool does. With just a few hints as to what they can really do, it will it can do wonders for the average builder who would otherwise struggle to figure these things out on their own. Evo took the best step toward that goal by including example groups in the editor. Yes, they got abused by lazy dummies, but it worked wonders for me. Because these were totally isolated, I could figure out their functions easier. Example tracks/skill games are great too, but a finished product can be tricky to break down for a beginner. This, again, is why coaching the player more directly in tutorial videos is important. I completely understand that dozens of comprehensive tutorial vids can't be in the game, but there should be a broad introductory tutorial included in the game; anything to get the player invested so they don't give up immediately.

Whew. Lots of words. Wasn't planning on that.

Thanx for the reply guys will try and respond with out going on forever as i usually do

    Gata

I agree not many build skill games , i would imagine though to actually create a decent skill game that is going to stand the test in tc is a hard thing to acomplish , infact i know it is , i have done the uphill and also created my first ever skill game with a custom charactor. Its not all that good but was very hard to acomplish. Its called fli lo and didnt do very well. It only used the area effectors but its a skill game none the less lol. Doest quite work exactly as i was trying to get but my first ever and this is my first trials also.

    Jolan

Thats something that i dont think to hard about and that where to build my track , unless i am going ot be needing like alot of dirt or snow and so forth. Unless i have a background theme in mind then i do think about it alot. I have seen lots of vids for evo and have noticed one thing and thats evo does have its own same stlye just like fusion does. where in fusion its all future and hard to get out of that i found upon watching all types of tracks from evo for them to all be worn and country old type if you know what i mean. Like a realy dirt bike rally theme. Not sure i have played one of your tracks bud , whats your best and have you any that has been crossed , i woud imagine so.

    Stillbreathin

hi bud first of all i totally agree with the part on giving more help towards new builders , i have kicked up enough stink in here about this issue. They do have the live editor and some other forms but yes they need to have this within game also , for it to actually be used within its correct manner. However lol , i personelly and im being honest have no creativity in my bones , should have seen my birdhut in cdt when i was back at school. The poor bird would have thought it was on the titanic , yet for some reason i find the way the editor is layed out and the objects as they are opens up my mind. I start with a mian theme in which i want to go and then i roll , not much time or effort is actually gone into any of my pre track preperation. Maybe for me the fact that things are not easy and the fact that you have to play about with objects to get the desired effect you want , is why i find being creative a flowing thing that just happens within the track i am making. I am fairly new compared to all these guys in here and i have made about 30 tracks which alot are more of experiments on how to use things and so forth. This goes back again to what you was saying about nutruing new builders , i do feel i have had to do this all by my self and can totally see why new builders dont continue to grow or just dont start.

I found one of my best results to growing within the editor is not to try and compete with other tracks , when i first saw the editor and the example tracks , i thought there is no chance i will able to use any of the rubbish , because thats all it was to me. I found that if i went into one of the example tracks , undid everything that had been put together and then put it all back together in my own way. This left me open to doing things the long winded way but still i can do a fair amount within the editor which i first thought wouldnt be possible.

    thanx for the replys guys

    Hey man

Im probably echoing what has already been siad, just less eloquently

I used to build in Evo, i wasn't a prolific builder by any means, but I did really enjoy it

I'm actually glad I bought Fusion day one on the 360, because I hated it and actually, I clawed back some semblance of life away from the editor

Honestly (and this isnt me having a moan) I don't rate the 360 version at all.. But on the Xbone its great
Really lovin it and possibly might start building again.. Its an awesome feeling just to release a track your proud of.. And I'd like to think some people enjoyed playing the tracks I did make.

Anyway, yeah.. I think the initial objecta were poor, but as the game grows the options grow and T/C "could" become great again...... "Could"

Saying that.. Loot monkeys just won T/c with ..Sleeper.. Stunning
