Low effort maps bump good ones from top 50

Was looking for other peoples thoughts on maps like Run ***** Run being in the same category as maps that actually take effort and time. While I admit these mindless maps are fun, it is my opinion they should be in a different category. Perhaps one called "Happy fun time no effort" or the like. Once your map falls out of the top 50 it is effectively dead. My Klammath Falls assult map is just below 4 stars and hasnt been played in 4 days because it dropped out.

Give it a shot if ya have a little time and help the real map makers get into the top 50 instead of **** like "Just a ton of fun"

Can't argue with you. It would take a commitment from UBI to allow a Far Cry 4 employee to take a day every couple weeks to play, research and moderate this sort of thing. There would need to be a new category and these maps in question would need to be moved accordingly.

Maybe it would be as simple as changing the rating system. As it is now you get a 100% (thumbs up) or a 0% (thumbs down). Perhaps if we were able to actually give maps between 1-5 stars we would see a more accurate score for maps across the board.

My Klammath Falls assult map was steadily in the top 25 for almost a week. Then it took a series of 3 downvotes to drop it out of the top 50. Last I checked it is currently sitting with 33 upvotes and 7 down and is effectively dead. It bums me out for sure and many other great maps are suffering the same fate because maps like Run ***** Run and firmly entrenched in the top 50.

I don't want to believe that there is now way to make the system more kind to people that put tens to hundreds of hours into maps.

The in-game map browser sucks monkey tails, also there are no maps sharing sites, we have to use these really erratic forums to get the publishing done, With a thread that had 140+ views, I nested 40 Youtube views, and 14 plays.

    Have fun y'all...

    Hey Kantham.

I understand yours and others frustration with getting your map recognised and this feedback has been passed on.

Everyone's maps will also be available on our Far Cry 4 community site which can be found HERE.

I can fully appreciate that having low play and rating numbers can be quite disheartening, however having seen your maps myself, I'd say you have fantastic talent that should be appreciated.

And to everyone else, please understand that all your concerns have been voiced and should we have any information about improvements to the IGE in the future, you will all be the first to know.

    Thanks.

Back in the hay-day of Instincts: Evolution, we had a site called Genesis Device that was nothing but custom maps! New maps, tutorials, screenshots, videos, and of course user-run Contests! So many contests; the site had it all! It even had a rotation of clips on the main page somehow! I think Fallen Champ was a biggie back then, may be the only other person who remembers it .

Aw hells-yeah, Maxprey & the Genesis Device: Legend of the Map Whisperer Contest! 7/10/06

Maybe in several months it might be a good idea to add some community maps into the Featured Area of the map browser because that is really the only way they will get good exposure, There are already thousands of maps that will never be seen, it is very hard to find quality maps without people promoting them somewhere but then it's always been that way.

As for information regarding improvements to the IGE I really hope that they do fix up some of the broken things that should have worked properly on day one.
Reference COOP been added to Maps I was hoping that we would have already had info coming for this explaining how it works.

I am wondering about extra items for the editor I found a bucket load of stuff in the SP Game that would be useful in the editor and that MOD which allows Far Cry 3 items to work in the FC4 Editor I would love that as DLC on consoles, it would even be worth a purchase for me.

The map browser and rating system is definitely unfortunate. I have tried to back calculate the algorithm with map star ratings, and it appears that a thumbs down counts as a 0 stars, a skipped vote counts as 2.5 stars, and a thumbs up counts as 5 stars. Using these numbers it is almost impossible to get a 4 or 5 star map, especially if one of your first plays earns either a thumbs-down or skipped vote.

On a good note, Ubi_Jax is doing a great job of promoting quality maps on these forums! I just wish that the recognition got carried into the in-game map browser.

It would be great if they added maps of the month on the game , but it probably cause to much controversy and money.

My second thought is to have a spot in the game search called serious maps. Maps that took over 30 or 40 hours to complete. The game knows how long you been on. So they should be able to add in the program for maps or even list it with the map. I would be more inclined to pick a map to play that took along time to make. Even if it was not that good at least I know the person put some time into it. Yes you could cheat, but how many people are going to leave the console on all the time and not play another game or at least work on their map, plus if you do not touch your controller for some time the game will freeze .

Another thing that is bothersome When I try to pick a new map to play, the picture in always loading now. So you never know what you are getting and lately it's been maps with green grids on it, that was probably made in a couple of hours. So if the time to make a map was include with the maps you could make a better decision as to which map you want to play.

Definitely the map browser, is not very enlightening about how is the map. I personally prefer to search the map in the forums of specialized websites, where it has more info, screenshots and videos.

I think those three words are the key.. Info. Screenshots and videos.
