Given what the PC gamers have been given for the rollout of FC4, LAZY is indeed a good word to use. My initial experience with FC3 was a bit after rollout, already had patch 1.04 IIRC.

Okay ... so it seems it just might not be consistent between outposts and missions/quests.

Regarding the distance factor. from my experiences in FC3, the outpost NPCs are clearly programmed to not venture beyond a certain distance in searching for whatever got them upset. I assume it's the same here in FC4. So far I've taken down the o/p's using bow/knife and haven't done any "stand-off" sniping beyond the idiots standing on top of roofs.

In using the buzzer I've had NPCs come quite a distance should I remain in their line-of-sight. That of course is in free-roaming, not in any mission/quest, or at any outpost.

My experience with bait is that the guard dog has to be within a certain range for it to come get it, and you want to throw it where any human doesn't react to it being thrown (i.e., it acts like a rock). Too far, and the local beast can indeed spawn.

Omg that is way too clever for me ! From now on the dog dies first.

The stealth system is less than perfect, to be polite. Don't get me wrong, it IS really good, but the flaws are so bloody annoying. Like being seen by one guard for 0.5 seconds before he gets the knife, doesn't get a chance to make a sound, nobody else around, yet everyone is magically alerted and set off the alarm. Try that "gold storage" outpost in the north. Totally isolated room underground.

Dogs are the most annoying, even if they can't do anything. Somehow they can communicate "activate the alarm" to the others with a single bark before the 50cal hits its brain at high velocity, and nobody is around to see it. The dog just saw me for a millisecond.

This telepathy makes it feel unfair.

Wouldn't it be cool if on those save the Kryatis from animal attack missions you could harvest toxic bait from the rabid animals and use it on guard dogs to make them turn against their masters.

    Stealth isn't always such fun

I like the idea of toxic bait for dogs and certainly an umbrella for the eagles which can come straight through the tree canopies. Until then the flame thrower is very effective.

Stealth is often an objective compromised for much more frenetic quick decision making and catastrophic chaotic but ENJOYABLE play. ITS A GAME!
Try doing a few outpost masters to find the best strategies but it's no big deal if the game beats you at times. I play merely against myself no-one else and to me the fun is far more important most of time and I think FC4 is a quantum leap better in many ways than FarCry3. Shame I have no co-op but many players maps (extra outposts in effect) are excellent and worth visiting.
    .
Dogs are usually my first kill targets and I am a great believer in C4 set as a dis-tractor only and mines when sticky are great for lobbing over walls followed by stones to invite an explosion or two. Distractive strategy maybe overlooked by many so try C4 around perimeter to focus the guards and dogs to that opposite side of the map. The cover is a big factor and you can often take an entire outpost with bait, mines and C4 only. Pity we cannot also skin the guards for bait yet but maybe not PC.....

Considering how complex and brilliant the game is I am sure the envelope will be pushed in time but it will also demand the very best hardware and be costly to get the quantum jump some people may like. I would imagine the "weaknesses" in AI etc are evident to the developers and beyond current computational capacity to include at moment as might overtax CPU capabilities. It is not easy to code.

Shoot dogs first and get bait attracted prey onto them. Run mines and C4 between dogs and yourself and merely treat every set of eyes are 20:20. Dogs have a profoundly developed sense of smell in real world and you wouldn't have a chance unless downwind all time so it is counterbalanced by that.

So, game has some limitations but play to them is my suggestion and its only a game.

Enjoying stealth for me is the use of the bow, takedowns, and rocks for distraction as often as possible. Would really like to use the new knife throw feature more often, but it really needs the reticle turned on due to the small white aiming point display, and I prefer to play with reticle off as part of immersion.

I certainly should consider mines and C4 early on if heavies are involved, and the heavy takedown skill hasn't been acquired yet. So NPCs get upset a bit. If you wait them out, they basically return to a somewhat normal pattern of movement. What's that merc phrase in FC3 from the south island - "I have all the time in the world" ...

My preferred play style would not make for great, or even good youtube viewing, that's for sure ...
