If I were to take a guess, it might have something to do with the little bomblets the IL 2s can drop. Cluster bombs is a modern name for small bomblets like they use today.
just a guess,

Hi Oddglob,
"Attack" missions are those which task the player flight with attacking a ground target.
"Bomb" missions task the player flight with escorting a flight of strike aircraft.
"Cluster" refers to a group of static targets - tanks, field guns, trucks, etc.
Cheers,

Hi Greg,
Thank you very much. The key thing is now that I know the ground targets are static. Whether they are static or mobile would depend on how I am customising my DGen missions. I've decided fighter bombers and dive bombers work better on mobile targets (GAttack), whereas level bombers will very rarely hit a moving target because their target zone is fixed.
So it seems I can safely set up my ops DGen files to use either level bombers or ground attack aircraft on the cluster missions.
Thanks again.

Hi Oddglob,
If you fancy more large level bombers appearing in your game, then clusters are good targets for them indeed.
Glad to help,
Greg
