Two Christmas breaks have a 'dark-video-game-cloud.' The first memory was as a little kid when ET came out on the Atari 2600 - which I still have - as some kind of sick memory. For you younger gamers...assume ET had the hype that One Direction or Justin Bieber generates for little girls. For you older gamers that didn't have an Atari...assume it was the equivalent of a Mike Tyson fight. If you are in between...picture Lebron James coming back to Cleveland. It is consistently rated as the worst video game of all time. Now, as a grown adult, I set aside copious amounts of time to play my favorite game series this Holiday season. That being Far Cry. I have spent the better part of 5 days just getting it to load up. I love that the errors I experience are like a random number generator with little consistently. I would pay $500 to fix it. Make that a $1,000. Here is where it will get interesting. Many kids are about to install this game today after getting it as a Christmas gift. And i can assure you...some of them...will keep their game DVD for 30 years....like I have. As a reminder. That being said...I work for a large software company. I get it. Things happen. But selfishly I wondered last night 'why can't this happen to a racing game?!' So, here I sit for the 6th day just trying to play a game that I got 15% into. And in the next room my son is experiencing the same issues on a different type of console. He is roughly the same age as I when i got ET. And in a weird way we are about to share a bond that not many will understand. Because later today - while I am waiting for Far Cry to not let me play - I will be hooking up the Atari. And dusting off ET. If it was any other game series - I would have written it off a week ago. The series has provided me with tons of enjoyment and I will wait the 3rd, 4th, and 5th patch out. The thing that sucks is that I have actual down time and not traveling. Was so pumped to light it up this break.
Stay safe, Enjoy the Holidays. And ask Santa for some more patches.
