    Zipline frustration

    Hi,

Not sure if it's only me but I find adding the zipline extremely frustrating! So much so that I gave up for not being able to put one in. Wouldn't it be much simpler to be able to use the ramp tool idea to put in these ziplines? You would select point A and then point B and this would put in your zipline. Then fine tune it like any other objects.

    100% agree.

The worse part is the mesh origin. It's in the bottom center of the bounding box. Have fun moving the widget around.

I don't know if this is really what they've used in the actual dev editor, but **** me if they did.

Yeah this is another frustration I have with is selecting an object like a ladder to move it close to the edge of a building. As soon as you select you zoom in at the bottom and can't see the top of the ladder. You have to zoom out quite allot to see the whole ladder but then you aren't close enough to see how close your ladder is to the edge.

It would be much simpler if each objects had different points of selecting it. Like if I'm zoomed in at the top of the ladder, it picks up the ladder from there.

This would help out for ziplines too if they didn't want to have it worked with the ramp tool idea. You'd just insert a zipline close to your area you want, then select one post and move it to your first point. Then select the other post and move it to your second point while the first point stays anchored.

Even better; instead of having different length ziplines just make one that stretches! Roads do that, why can't ziplines!

I don't have problems with ladders personally, I think the ground origin is perfect, it's a matter of then clicking each ladders individually until you find the right height. I'm on PC so maybe it's much worse on consoles?

I spoke to a friend who worked as a LD on the project, inside the developer editor, they have to manually place the "hook" meshes (cosmetic only) and then set one A to B rope actor and adjust the tension from there. They did not go through the nightmare we have to deal with, lol.

For sure, the publishing editor is gimped like crazy. Still a good tool, but it's extremely limited in contrast with the dev tools.
I'd love to have their visual scripting system like all editors have now.

Placing ziplines is definitely a nightmare! I think it will get easier if Ubisoft ever fixes the auto-camera scroll glitch, but at the moment they are almost unworkable. It does help to edit the coordinates manually.

This is a nightmare on consoles due to CAMERA AUTO SCROLL OFF not working, if that worked then you could simply set the view and move the item around freely without any hassle / issues at all.

Because it does not work usually when we select an item to move the camera then sets it's own view which is usually a view that makes moving items and close up work very hard.
I really hope they fix this because it makes the process about 10 times longer at least when making a map, the majority of my time is lining up objects which would be so much quicker had that option been fixed.

Ziplines are simply a nightmare. I've used them twice. They are too limited. I want to zipline entire canyons. I should be able too click on point A, click point B. BAMM! Zipline.

    Instead we have... this.

And don't even get me started on power lines.

That is how the ziplines worked on the Far Cry Instinct Series (Evolution and Predator)

If it ain't broke don't fix it - Basiaclly you could stretch the zipline to the required length / height - within seconds it was lined up and working, you could even do a vertical one which worked & the clever people who modded maps could make them go upwards and increase the speed of travel.

I would love to see them done like this in the next game because trying to use the ziplines in the current editor is a real pain, Even if Auto Scroll set to OFF was working on consoles we would at least be able to see what we are doing but it would still take a lot of time getting them lined up perfect.

Another cool thing was you could shoot a pistol while on the zipline and you could drop from one zipline onto another.
