I just published my first map for Far Cry 4 on the x1. I am looking for some feedback and am willing to answer any questions if anyone is interested. This was is my first map and I learned alot. It took me a week to make it, but don't spare my feelings if it's crap. I do recommend playing it a couple of times, as I tried to put several ways to go.
Map Style:
Non-linear
start off with 4 empty slots
high replay value
good for coop (when it gets here!!!)
not too difficult
....
I dunno. I can't think of anything else.
1st map?
Bee Hive!!!!
The map is called Mountain Camper 1.4. My gamer tag is BRASCH.
Some of the lessons that I learned:
1. My Outpost layout is actually too big for the limited AI options that we have.
2. I'm pretty sure that I put too many AI animation points on the map.
3. It's hard to objectively beta test your map.
4. It's hard to watch others beta test your map.
5. Learning the controller interface is arduous but essential (the undo function is awesome)
6. Group object selection is easier than it seems at first.
7. Turn on the option to show nav mesh for characters (if their is not blue path to get somewhere the NPCs will not be able to get there [unless you are using ladders]).
8. I kept having NPC's walk into and catch on fire. I used the step ladder object (under military/industry objects) upside down under the fire (under the map) to create an area of 'don't walk here' on the fire (the area of 'don't walk here' can be seen, when the 'show nav mesh' option is set for charaters, in green on the ground)
9. I also found that when I place a health pack under the stove or under the legs of the bench (I'm assuming it's considered 'within' an asset), my heath pack falls through the floor.
10. Your published map can't receive updates, so once it's out there, it's out there. To update your map you have to re publish a second version.
Cheers,
BRASCH

I will check it out Brasch and look you up on Xbox one. As for some advise. Use YouTube, some of the PC guys out there have some great videos on scenery, layout and they use the same map editor. Fallen Champ has posted thread, sort of a quick guide on things that will help you and just making maps you will learn some thing new all the time.
If you happen to come across anything you feel might help players with their map making, please make sure to post the links here;Originally Posted by ImGonaG3tUsucka Go to original post

Thanks.
Thanks. The scenery is definitely something that I've had to work alot on. I got some really great feedback from Kemet Nubia, who was telling me about having to consider the draw distance and how close a player will be engaging around different types of terrains (example: rock climbing up painted terrain doesn't look as good as climbing up a rock wall asset). The problem that I had after that was finding rock assets, of the right size, that matched the color of the terrain. If you play the map (or even the video), you can see where some of the rock faces are a little different color.Originally Posted by ImGonaG3tUsucka Go to original post
I will keep that in mind, also check it out myself. Thanks Ubi_JaxOriginally Posted by Ubi_Jax Go to original post
Branch, As for your map Mountain Camper 1.4. I thought it had a great lay out. Two bases, cave system, also you made it possible to access different areas. Like on the roof of a building or jump down the well. It looks like you have a lot of replay value. So the lay out looks good. Everything is there. You have placed weapons and ammo in good locations. I think the AI is fine. What needs some work is the scenery and the placement of objects. The color of the rocks with the scenery is good and the use of the vegetation is good. But you have to watch when you lay it down on hill or you will get floating grass too. Just delete alittle or flatten the top of the hill usually that takes care of that. You have some floating rocks on the path leading up the hill. The camp fire is floating too. If you walk near the lake and look at the fire you will see it. Also the paper in the tent on the floor. The path leading up the mountains looks good but just needs some more polishing to make it more realistic. Sink in the group of rocks. Just some advise I am no expert. Here are a couple of tips when laying something down, always grab it and sink it alittle more. It's always better to have something look more settled in then to be floating. You want everything to look like it has always been there. Even houses. You will still pass validation in yellow. When using a small group of rocks I always sink it half way or more. The more real it looks the better the connection the player has with the game. I think the map is good just needs some more polish. So I hope that helps.
