Give us control over our savegames.

I had to experience a game breaking bug in this game before I realised that the problem was not the bug in itself, it was the fact that I could not go back to an older save to fix this.

When I played Skyrim, I had over 100 savefiles running so if I wanted to go back because I did something wrong, I had the option. In FarCry 3, I always had 3-4 saves running too. I could not create a new save each time, but at least I had some backups.

It looks like the majority of the problems we see in Technical Support is because people can't go back to an older save. Playing a mission again because the game bugged is anoying but it's not like losing 25 hours.

On PC, you can do a manual backup of your savegames every night or everytime you feel it's necessary. For me, my savegames files are not located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames<UPLAY USER ID>\856. They are located in E:\Uplay\savegames<UPLAY USER ID> So if you can't find your savefiles in C: you should check on your other HDD.

I realise that the Cloud is the next big thing in gaming, but giving us only one save is completely ridiculous. Is it to save space? I have a 2 terrabytes HDD, storage is cheap, I can handle the save files myself if the Cloud can't.

Hopefully, Ubisoft will give us control over our savegames again.

    Peace

I agree! One of the biggest issues I have with FC4 so far (beside those darned eagles and the game stuttering to point of being ridiculous) is the fact that I can't save whenever I choose. VERY frustrating! From what I've read in these forums it seems way too many fans are having way too many issues with FC4. Maybe Ubisoft should invest more time in beta-testing before they release a new game, huh?

One save is ridiculous! At least give us PC users the option to fill our drives with what we want. It doesn't cost YOU anything to implement several save slots instead of one. Well, now it does, because you gotta fix it, Ubi.

It is actually quite easy to make as many save game files as you want on a PC. i have sent saved game files to 2 forum members who both were able to use them to start their game from my save point. So if you read just the last 3 pages on the PC forum you can get a detailed description of how to make endless save game files and restart a game from them at any time. You could have a dozen people in your house all having different games going. The console is different and I totally agree that they should have at least had the 3 game save game folders like they did in FC 3 so you could do diffeent difficulty or different members of your household could have their own game going easily choosing which to load.

Somebody know why the industry decided that it would be better for the consumer to have absolutely 0 control over their savegames? I realise that it was like that on Nintendo 64, but it was because there was a limited storage. Now storage is cheap, you can buy a 2 Terrabyte HDD for 60$.

Is it because they think it will be more "simple" for us to handle one save at a time? Is it because Ubisoft don't want to invest on their Cloud? (even if they push it down our throat with Uplay). Blizzard can have millions of people on their servers and every single second of play is saved. I never heard anybody complaining about savegames on World of Warcraft or Diablo.

Anyway, I just don't understand the model... If Ubisoft don't want to give us more flexibility over our savegames, then they should focus on quality instead of impossible delays.

EDIT: Like I said in my OP, I know that PC gamers can do a manual backup of their Uplay savegames folder, but it's still not fair for XBONE and PS4 users.

It was probably to force the player to not savescum, which can be a good thing. But i rather have more than 1 saves and not savescum, than being forced to play with one. Also the system doesn't really save the spot where you are at, just last outpost and progress.

Being able to just save everywhere you want at any time is not in any way suspenseful. I think they did get it right as the player has zero consequences being able to save mid-mission.

It is possible to disable cloud saving in uplay, and in turn make backups of your save files. I have done it, I wanted to go through the alternate ending so i disabled cloud, backed up my save file, and started a new game. Then after I was done, I replaced the save file with my backup and it was like nothing had ever happened
