Trials Frontier PvP Update - Available Now

Zudina has been teasing what is hidden behind the bunker doors for a few weeks now, and hundreds of users have asked us to let them in on the secret.

Let’s rip the doors off of the hinges and get some information on just what is in the bunker:

Welcome to Trials Frontier Player vs Player ranked competition. In Trials Frontier PvP you compete in a 1-on-1 style multi-race bout against another player somewhere in the world on a set of three randomly selected tracks, on randomly determined bikes.

Races are ranked, so while your game only has you racing against one other person during a 24-hour match (if you follow Shogun, Blue or myself on Twitter, think #WeekendChallenge) where the person with the best time gains chips, and whoever is in the lead when the 24 hours are up, wins.

I can almost hear some of you asking, “What are chips?” and the answer is fairly simple. For each track you are ahead on (and can complete - looking at you island tracks) you earn chips. The longer you are in the lead, the longer you are earning chips, and the more you get when the race is over. Chips can be cashed in through the PvP shop to pick up a slew of goodies from coins and gems to blueprint parts and fuel, as well as quite a few other items.

Players will be happy to know that if you set a new best time on a track, and are using a bike from that track’s tier, then scores will be saved to the Trials Frontier leaderboard. Scores set on a track while using a bike of a higher tier will not be saved, but that would hardly be fair to other players. No matter the bike tier scores will be saved to the Season Ranking leaderboards where you can view your standing for the season amongst your friends. For you Trials Legends, there is also a Legends Leaderboard where you will be directly compared with the best of the Trials Frontier players in the world.

It’s not easy to become a Legend, as they are the stuff of… legends... but if you have what it takes to bring home 1st place for a season, and level up one more time, you will be placed into our Trials Frontier Legends Leaderboard.

Do you have what it takes to be a legend? You don’t need to tell us, show us on the leaderboards.

Trials Frontier PvP is live NOW.

My favorite part of this update so far is that it crashes right after the Ubisoft logo.

So, I'm excited about this update, but I would like to provide this feedback: I think the game is becoming overly complicated with all of these disparate currencies. Let's do an inventory:

    • Fuel, for racing missions and time trials
    • Coins, to buy bike upgrades
    • Crafting Items, to make those upgrades cost fewer coins
    • Gems, to buy costumes, paint jobs, bridges, crafting items and to speed up timers that shouldn't be there in the first place
    • Outfits, which affect the rate of accrual of various currencies
    • Friends, are actually a metric for obtaining outfits and increasing the number of tickets you get in bunker
    • Tickets, to make attempts in a given showdown race
    • Golden Tickets, to initiate new showdowns
    • Chips, to buy maps, coins and crafting items in the "chip shop"

That's a whole lot of various currencies to earn and use and keep track of. How about unifying that to one or two? I bought a whole bunch of gems thinking they were the most valuable currency in the game and then this update comes out where they're useless and I'm encouraged to buy Golden Tickets. Really? Let's simplify.

Beyond this, there are various collect-a-thon type grinding goodies that I'd much much prefer were unlocked through skill challenges. They are:
    • Bikes
    • Bike Upgrades
    • Level Maps
    • Outfits
    • Fuel Tank Capacity

I really just want to play the actual game here. I want to unlock bikes and upgrades through skill, not grinding. I want to unlock maps and outfits by beating tough challenges, not grinding. I want to play the game I've paid a decent amount of money for at this point, without watching ads all the time. Gah, there's a great game here, it's just obfuscated by a dozen or so currencies and grind-a-thon, collect-a-thon unlocking processes.

+1. Or at least get rid of having TWO confirmation dialogs to confirm that the gift was sent. Just send the gift and don't pop up a dialog unless there was an error.
