PLEASE PROVIDE CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK HERE, THANKS - Far Cry Community Team
First of all I apologize if many threads like this have been created already, but I think it's important that these messages get across to Ubisoft and reinforce the community's spirit for the Far Cry map editor. Things I say may have been said already or already resolved, but Ubisoft needs to hear from us.
The following post may seem like a rant or just a wish list, but it is only put across, because I care a lot about Far Cry and it's editor, like many others.
Why add new content, but then take away what was great?
To me, the new features of making your own single player (and co-op soon I hope) missions is a great new addition as it allows the map editor to be used in a completely new way, adding much more versatility. But, why does this have to come with the cost of dropping competitive multiplayer support? Have the option of making a map for either singleplayer/coop or comptetitive multiplayer seems like a natural step forward, but getting neglecting a feature that drew in so many people to Far Cry and a feature that fans expected of the series just doesn't make sense. I'm sure you must have read and seen many people moan about this and say things like "I'm supremely disappointed" and "I'm withdrawing my pre-order". Please don't ignore these people, because its a huge part of your fan base.
- Add competitive multiplayer support- spawn points and objectives like before.
- Allow weapons and vehicles to be in multiplayer maps for a classic Far Cry multiplayer experience. (It's good to have zip lines and turrets back)
Please expand and fix what's already in the editor.
The new features of the editor such as adding waves of AI, AI interaction points, Outpost objectives and such are brilliant and hold a lot of potential to make nearly infinite scenarios, but they are not without their problems. Here are several things I've picked up on and read from other people that could hopefully be fixed/added to make it a more complete package.
- Adding AI settings for individual AI placements- Currently the AI you place on the map will just have am ind of their own (naturally) and just wander off in random directions. Fair enough, there are the AI interaction points which add some control to them, but they are not guaranteed to draw them in and eat up AI memory. Also, it would be nice to keep the AI in a stronghold or outpost without them rushing out when reacting to gunfire/explosions, leaivng it empty when you get there (or you never get there, because you've killed everything already).
Suggestions- Give them their own individual settings such as stay put, follow this patrol path (similar to how the road tool and map limit is drawn)
Have reaction settings such as stay put and defend, investigate with caution, rush the enemy or add a reaction radius to each enemy that can be changed in size (like the brush size) so they only respond to a certain area around them.
- Placing silenced and/or customised weapons- It's great having set weapon placements to give the maps balance, but currently they are all loud except for the bow. Having silenced/custom weapons allows for more stealthy maps and more variety in general. Also, an option to start without any guns would be great.
- Being able to throw rocks to distract enemies like in single player- simple, but this would be a lot of fun.
- Fix the wave spawn settings please- Currently it seems like you cannot change and save the options that control when the next wave is spawned such as (one dead, 25% dead, etc.) This ends up with everything coming way too fast as it always defaults to "one dead". Could you please fix this and/or clarify how it works properly, especially in Outpost maps where there is a reinforcements wave too.
Sorry for a long post, but these points needed to be stated clearly.
Many thanks for reading.
Feel free to add you own suggestions.
All great points and I understand your pain. I had the same reaction as you at the start of this mess (FC3). I was trying to wrap my brain around Ubisoft's decisions to mess up the lobby system in FC3, when they had a great one in FC2. Then FC4 came out and no MP IGE, you're thinking "have they lost it"? The answer to all this is quite simple, the multiplayer and IGE are slowly being phased out of the franchise (IMO). Since FC2, the multiplayer and IGE have both seemed like an afterthought, while the singleplayer has become the main focus. The hardcore mapping community that has followed/been active with the game for years has now been pushed to the side by Ubisoft. Many of these mappers have been active in the forums pleading their cases regarding the direction of the series, but have falling on deaf ears. We all thought that FC4 would bring back the community and the fun would start all over again, but unfortunately, the dagger was put in place by eliminating the MP IGE. It's a sad story, because the game had so much potential.Originally Posted by Magadite Go to original post
Hey everyone.
Thanks for providing your feedback regarding the In Game Editor. I understand that a lot of people have a lot of opinions about the IGE and it's important we can collect this information and provide it to the developers.
With that in mind, I'm going to move this thread into our new Far Cry 4 Map Editor Forum, found here; http://forums.ubi.com/forumdisplay.p...p-Making-Forum
Please continue to provide your feedback and thoughts about the map editor and what you think needs adding and improving. We really appreciate all the feedback that gets provided.
Thanks.
Very good points OP and also Kudos for Ubisoft for creating an own map editor forum. You guys need to realize that you are ONE OF THE FEW who offer such a powerful map editor with your game, for me it one of the heart pieces of the game and it would be a sin if you neglect it, i hope you do alot of great things which involve the whole community here, not only for the Far Cry fanbase, but also for the world to see, what a powerful tool you ship with FC4.
I have seen you realeased a map editor Tutorial with 1 hour length: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OE55mtGsbc
This should be stickied right away, so more people see it.
You are taking steps forward here, keep at it!![]()
Hey Gaspromx2 and thanks for your feedback.Originally Posted by Gaspromx2 Go to original post

Thanks.
To be honest, I dont think that the competitive multiplayer was going in the right direction after Far Cry 3's 'short coming' attempt at it. I agree with the other guy, that they have slowly shifted their focus from the mappers to the story-players. Don't get me wrong, the new system is amazing and personally I think its what needed to be done. I feel like this adds much more diversity in the map-making process, because it no longer must be built to stop players from escaping the map, or camping, and it does not need to be a balanced map as it used to. I saw an unbelievably limited selection in custom multiplayer maps in FC3, likely because we, the players, just dont have the mind to create a balanced, linear, equal multiplayer map and decorate it at the same time, to make it look attractive. The single-player approach, however, does not need to be fair, because it is just for fun. Youve seen it i'm sure, there are maps on the moon with aliens, or maps of dug-out pits where bears charge at you and you must hold them off with a grenade launcher, for example. these maps are fun, they do not need to be taken seriously because you don't have those try-hards who care for nothing but levelling up and such. If they incorporated a multiplayer mode, They would not only have to code it and add gamemode's, they would have to restrict the limits of buildings, foliage, and objects in general to be able to support multiple players on the map at once. Why add new content, but then take away what was great?

Oh i see you created 4 map tutorial videos already, that's kinda nice might wanna add them to the sticky aswell.
Also something which is saw in the videos, you cannot single bushes or trees. at specific spots, instead you can only spray it, is that correct? IF that's the case a functionality to place single objects would be fantastic.
100% agree on that, but personally, I believe that they have done nothing wrong by any means with the new system. As I stated before, this just allows for so much more creativity, and there is virtually no 'pressure' to create something that caters to everyone, while also making a playable map and making it look good for other players to be attracted to it. This is just the right system, in my personal opinion. Honestly, one of the most fun things to do in FC3 after you beat the story was to go onto map-editor and create these small little maps with AI and weaponry and pretend you're doing a mission, just for fun! (opinion based of course). I heard that the 360 has the capability to place far more AI than you could in FC3, and that is because the game is now catered to people like me, who completely love creating single-player maps like this. You guys need to realize that you are ONE OF THE FEW who offer such a powerful map editor with your game...
Thanks so much for creating a specific Map Editing Forum! This is a great sign because it shows that Ubisoft does care about us mappers. I would also like to add a few suggestions to improve the single player map editor, as follows:
- More control over AI. I would specifically like the ability to create AI pathways or be able to edit the character Navigational Mesh for AI. I would also like the choice to force an AI enemy to guard a specific location, even if the player is detected (rather than rushing the player).
- Ability to add an opening narrative, even if it is just a text narrative. I understand there may be concerns with monitoring text narratives for expletives and other profanities or verbal abuses, but us mappers are generally a mature community. There is no reason to limit everyone's fun for a troublesome few. Trust us to self regulate (it works for LBP).
- Ability to add custom objectives. It would be great if mappers could add their own custom objectives. I understand this might be technically difficult, but it shouldn't be too hard to at least add the ability for mappers to add optional collectibles to their maps.
- The ability to make basic triggers. Something as simple as a door that requires a switch to be opened or a door that requires a key to open would be great!
- The ability to make conditionals. Something like if the player saves hostage 1, ally troops will spawn at point B. This might be getting too advance for Far Cry's map editing scope, but it never hurts to wish.
- Higher AI limit on PS4/Xbox One consoles. I think the AI limits are workable, but more memory would be great. It kills me that if I want to add a few crows for atmosphere, I need to sacrifice enemy AI memory for every wave! Are small animals that have no gameplay optimized for AI budget?
- Larger object budget on PS4/Xbox One consoles. I think that it is crazy that I a have two maps at >99% object budget, but memory is still less than 50% budget and performance is perfect green. Allow us console players to add more objects even if it might affect performance. Us mappers are smart enough to be able to balance performance with objects. We shouldn't be arbitrarily limited.
- The ability to place weapon augmentations. It would be so cool to start the player with a basic weapon, but allow the player to add augmentations to the weapons found throughout the map, especially silencers!
- Finally add more objects! The editor is a great start and I would be happy to pay for IGE object DLC!
Collect it where? In the garbage disposal? We've been giving you the same exact feedback for the better part of a decade.Originally Posted by Ubi_Jax Go to original post
1) We asked for: Full weapon placement in the editor
Ubisoft gave us: A CoD like load out system.
2) We asked for: A lobby system that functions like FC2
Ubisoft gave us: Absolutely no lobby system at all
3) We asked for: Vehicles in MP custom maps
Ubisoft gave us: Absolutely no vehicles in MP due to no custom maps
4) We fully expected: A reasonable 16 player MP mode
Ubisoft gave us: 6 fewer than what was essentially the bare minimum 2 generations ago
5) We fully expected: The traditional MP game modes in addition to maybe one or two unique ones
Ubisoft gave us: A few completely random MP modes that would be interesting... in addition to the normal ones
6) We asked for: Respect
Ubisoft: Ignored us completely
7) We asked for: Escape maps as there own proper game mode
Ubisoft gave us: Absolutely no MP custom maps at all
I know I'm missing things here. Ubisoft HAS done many things right with the editor. They gave us the insanely powerful FC2 editor. They gave us a hole tool and waterfalls. They gave us SP maps and plan on giving us co-op maps. On the MP side they have not given us a single feature we've asked for. Not one. They absolutely insist on building their own ****y MP despite the mountains of nearly unanimous feedback telling them to do it completely differently.
