WE ARE NEXT YEAR... WHERE ARE THE BIG CHANGES??????????
THE SAME COPY-PASTE SOLUTIONS FOR ANY PROBLEM WITH UBI GAMES: UN-INSTALL EVERYTHING AND START OVER...

Do you guys realize that for whom has his games in pc-download that means we have to download every single game over and over again????

    RIDICULOUS!!!

It's soooo sad that UBI makes such beautiful games but after all these years is not able to make things easy for their customers nor to make the games work without bugs,,,
    Well done guys, well done!

    Hello NaMaY1791,

Thank you for contacting us. Uplay does now have the facility to recognise back-up game files. The system is currently similar to some other digital distribution platforms:
    - If you uninstall your Uplay PC client, all games installed through Uplay that are currently in the location they were installed in will be deleted.
    - If you make a backup of your game files or move your game files before uninstalling the Uplay PC client, then once Uplay is reinstalled you can tell Uplay to check the folder your backup game files are in and Uplay will verify them instead of needing to re-download all your game files.

However, this system does not work for all games. If a game uses an installer that gets downloaded rather than downloading game files, then you will need to take a backup of the installer rather than the game files themselves.

This system was introduced in an update released in February and you can read more about it here.

This is only the first iteration of the new system and the Uplay development team will be continuing to work on updating and improving the feature over time.

Can't actually get the game to work.
Installed it a few times, both thru download and from the disk.
Each time it downloads some updates online, then it proceeds to download directx and net.framework, each time it stops at netframework, saying it can't locate game data files, I select the right folder, the game files are successfully recognized, then I try to play again, uplay starts downloading directx and netframework again and I get the same error message and it goes like this in an endless loop.

    Hello stridingshadow,

Thank you for contacting us with your issue. In order to understand your situation better and try to identify the cause of the issue, can you please provide us with your Uplay logs? You can find information on where to get those logs here.

Sent you a mail back with the cause of your issue.

For the sake of sharing knowledge so that other might avoid common issues I'll also share it here.
The issue was not related to detecting game files. It was instead a compatibility issue Far Cry 4 (the game in question) requires a 64-bit operating system to run which was not present in this case.

This 64-bit minimum requirement has only started becoming "a thing" in the past year or so... so it's easy to miss unfortunately.

Just some visibility so other whom might see this message might not run into the same easy to make mistake.

    same problem

    1. Open uPlay and download Far Cry 4 until its downloaded about 5 mb.
    2. Pause download, close uPlay
    3. Went to "C:/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/data/420" and deleted the manifests folder and the .state file
    4. Went to "C:/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/games/Far Cry 4", and deleted everything in there (was empty for me anyway)
    5. Copied entire contents of my backed up Far Cry 4 game files to "C:/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/games/Far Cry 4"
    6. I added this to the registry (just copy this, save to a notepad file and save the extension as .reg)

    7. Double click the saved .reg file to add it to the registry
    8. Ran uPlay, Far Cry 4 said 'Play', but I clicked 'verify files' just to be sure.

Now, I want to get one thing off my chest. This was a hassle to get to work. PLEASE Ubisoft, add a 'Backup/restore' feature to uPlay! You guys obviously want people to use uPlay rather than steam... but why should we when steam has more features and is more reliable? Even Origin can easily detect games. I wish I had purchased via steam, or had purchased a physical retail copy. I will not be making purchases off uPlay again until you implement this feature. Thankyou.
hi, i`m having the same problems with the crew game files. i `v done 5 steps and i need the regisrty file for step 6 if u could help me .... tnx

I have purchased and downloaded Far Cry 4 on my laptop, then I put it on my external harddrive and put it on my desktop. I made sure uPlay had the right directory, but it just wants me to download the whole game again!! My internet is rreeaallly slow, so its very difficult to download 31 gigs again....

I've googled about a solution for this, apparently it can be done with registry entries. My Far Cry 4 game sits at D:\\Far Cry 4

If anybody can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou =)
I installed the game from the humble store download, which took a long time to download, then when it was finally unpacked mounted and installed, Uplay started and proceeded to start downloading it all over.

    Solution:

cancel the Uplay download, uninstall via uplay. Then go to your directory where you installed it from the other source, and make sure the game directory is exactly what Uplay is expecting (since its obviously pretty dumb), which is .../Far Cry 4/

Then start the game again from either the exe or the shortcut, Uplay will start and ask you to locate the game - point to the parent directory to /Far Cry 4/ (again it is too stupid to figure it out if you choose the actual farcry dir, it will just try to install inside that one.

It will then proceed to 'discover' all your already installed files. It will then proceed to download any extra files and (presumably, as this is where i'm currently at) continue with the install and everything will be peachy.
