I assume most can agree that a lot of people were excited for all these advanced gameworks features in Far Cry 4, especially seeing as they were confidently demonstrated before release. Let's recap on how these features work in reality:
TXAA - So far it's been established that SMAA has more of an effect than even 4x TXA especially during motion (BROKEN)
PCSS - While snowing, shadows can and most certainly do strange things, moving with the player and rendering where they normally wouldn't with EnableNvidiaPCSS="0" in the xml. It's also unclear what effect "softshadow" has in comparison to ultra while EnableNvidiaPCSS="0".
Enhanced Godrays - In certain places on the map, enhanced godrays simply stop having any effect and the exact line can be drawn at where this happens. This seems to be rare but nonetheless inexcusible.
Hairworks - Plain isn't in the released game, apparently in final development but that's taking long enough while these other issues are being mostly ignored.
HBAO+ seems to be the only issue that has no real evidence of not working properly, as opposed to all the others which have screenshots and videos to back up the problems claimed by so many and most likely experienced by so many others. In addition to these issues there are plenty of other issues that solely rest on Ubisoft - weird black "sea" issues, dark shadows for a lot of people, low quality DoF, texture issues including blurriness and missing textures, mesh issues such as clipping or "gaps" (sometimes massive and very noticeable from a distance), etc.
That's not just Assassin's Creed's Unity's launch that was pretty much botched, but also Far Cry 4's... (not that any higher-ups would see it that way, they've already got our cash).
Please Ubisoft, make it a priority to fix all of these issues, especially the gameworks related problems.
EDIT: A list of issues I forgot to add (Could be being picky here):
-Broken mortair aiming - horrible FoV, fps significantly reduces if used for too long making unusable.
-Intense DoF on mortar
-Intense DoF on all terrain past a certain distance - especially while using buzzer (not with sidearm, possibly due to buzzer frame causing effect)
-Intense DoF on mounted guns at weapon nests e.g. mounted grenade launcher, mounted LMG.
-DoF can't change depth based on closest object while using long distance (sniper) scopes - could be intentional.
- Noticeable texture quality change on sides of all roads (possibly intentional but super ugly- doesn't seem to be the case in 4K screenshots, not sure why that would make a difference)
- Lack of anisotropic filtering and failure of control panel AF to work properly means textures, especially roads, look ugly at oblique angles.
-Waypoints state a fixed random distance when the player is approaching it (usually further than the furthest distance the player has been from the waypoint e.g. make a waypoint to a look chest 15m away, the waypoint says 689m and doesn't change) *This only happens when the minimap is disabled after starting the game. If disabled and game is restarted, the issue is remedied*
-There's no way to disable mission icons from appearing on screen. I like to play with all of the HUD off (except reticle and detection metre) and I find these very distracting.
As far as I know there isn't even an option to enable HairWorks and Ubi got up theirs whether it will EVER get released or not! Ther are no updates on it.
Not mentioning the terrible DoF effect which can't be turned off and all of the weapons are terribly, and annoyingly blurry!
Here's what I'm talking about:
Consoles version doesn't have this crappy blur on weapons.
The plans for patch 2 do include functional hairworks actually: http://far-cry.ubi.com/en-US/news/li...m:148-76770-32Originally Posted by budyll Go to original post
Personally I don't understand how it can be allowed for Ubisoft to advertise a product and fail to deliver on both cases... Why even demonstrate hairworks if they know they can't put it into the PC version yet.
What I'm really concerned about is how their plans for this patch are so unambitious - "Fewer freezes" not "Fixed freezes". They're barely even listening to the Far Cry fanbase and don't care if we have to put up with so many annoying bugs and design flaws here and there, whereas they've made all AC:Unity's DLC free and given all season pass owners a free game as apology for a botched release.
As for that blur, yeah it's very annoying and it comes and goes as it pleases in certain situations, however 4K screenshots of the game don't show that blur at all which is strange....
EDIT: Now my the filter function on my map doesn't work... EDIT2: Actually if I turn all the interface options back on, it works again. So badly made....
The strength of the depth of field effect on the weapons depends on the resolution. The lower the resolution the more apparent it is. The higher the resolution the more subtle it becomes. It seems the blur works with pixels rather than 'percentages'.Originally Posted by Raztafarian69 Go to original post
Either way I've always found depth of on field on the weapons to be a pleasing effect. Too bad it's barely noticeable on the resolution I play. :P
But yes, I'm all for an option to toggle it.
The way they've implemented it is super strange and pretty silly. At least it doesn't bother me as much on 1440p internal res, but it's the same DoF effect as when in vehicles, when using mounted weapons etc and if it distracts you for long enough you notice how low quality it actually is, eugh. An option to toggle would be nice, but also properly working DoF would be nice too, sick of it focusing in on the buzzer wire/frame and making it impossible to see anything with the mortar.Originally Posted by MetalGeo1 Go to original post
I've gone on to find so many more bugs in the last couple days, most of which are the result of pure laziness and unfinished touches due to a game that was released earlier than it should have been. For example, there are two locations I can't discover, which prevents me from 100%ing the game (which yes, I care about). Other than things like that which affect gameplay, other bugs are mostly aesthetics (lazily done rivers, floating rocks, missing textures, etc). In this day and age when you can make a game so look beautiful 90% of the time, you'd expect Ubisoft to actually make sure annoyingly noticeable and easily repeatable bugs are ironed out before introducing graphics effects that don't even work >_>
P.S. I also keep getting this really annoying audio bug on respawn at times where my map audio, knife audio and general extra sound effects all go muffled/silent. Doesn't last long but why the hell should I have to deal with this? X|
