Co-op with friends on PS4 not possible

No matter what I do I can't get co-op to work with friends, I can open a co-op session & have some random person join me but thats all. I've port forwarded, following the advice from someone else in another thread & it made no difference. Are others having the same problem as myself. I have FC4 on XB1as well & can play co-op with my friends no problems.

I'm in the same boat with you, my friend. I can't get co-op to work, I've tried the friend list and the join random game routes, but always end up with the "error occurred" message. I haven't tested the random invite part, though.

Can you elaborate the port forwarding part, which ports have you forwarded? I found a Ubisoft guide which only mentions two UDP ports and then a guide at portforward.com for my Netgear router, which mentions five or six ports, both TCP/UDP(?). My PS4 has a static IP, so port forwarding should work, but it doesn't with this game. I now have seven or eight ports open for this game. The PS4 connection test shows NAT2, if that has any significance.

I have to add, this is the only game on PS4 that I have connection problems with. All the other games work like a charm in all network modes with no extra adjustments.

I have tried UDP 21120 & UDP 9000 which was provided by Ubi_Jax the community manager in another thread about the same problem, I have tried forwarding ports listed on Portforward.com; listed as Far Cry 4-Playstaion 4, which are TCP 80, 443, 1935, 3478-3480 UDP 3478-3479. The ports are the same for all games for ps4 on PSN. I haven't had any problems with other games online except for Far Cry 4 co-op with friends. I dont think its a regional issue because I've played co-op with someone (not one of my friends) that was in the US & I live in Australia. I've tried everything so far & still can't play with friends, I was really looking forward to playing co-op with my friends but now that experience has been ruined because my friends have given up trying. Also I manage to have a type 2 NAT most of the time but port forwarding seems to be useless if there are multiple PS4's being used at the same time in the home by other family members, we have 3 PS4's & I still can't play co-op with friends even if I'm the only one in the house playing a PS4 (all other PS4's are completely turned off).

OK so we're using the same instructions and have thus forwarded the same ports!

So it's not my connection, it's just that the network code is too strictly written. I haven't had these problems after migrating to console games, this is just the part of gaming I got fed up with on PC years ago. Has anyone here any other advice or any other ideas we could try? Very disappointed with this, would love to play co-op with my buddies.

If it works just fine on your XB1 - then there is no issue on your end network/hardware wise.

Only other thing it could be is the particular friend you are trying to play with - he might have something up on his end. That seems like the case especially if you are able to join other coop games.

I thought that may have been the problem myself but when I asked one of my friends if he was able to play co-op with one of his other friends he said yes, he has no problems. The only other thing I can think of is maybe its only a issue with people that have installed the Season Pass, all my other friends don't have it & they seem to be playing co-op just fine; also I don't have Season Pass on XB1 & have no problems either. I will try uninstalling the game & deleting everything to do with FC4 from my PS4 & start fresh, the only problem is getting my friends to try co-op again. Anyone is welcome to send me a friend request so I can try to work it out, my PSN name is XX_Jaycam_XX.

I just uninstalled the game & reinstalled it & updated it again without installing the season pass, still no luck.

If I select COOP to join I just get an endless screen that searches, on numerous times I have left this for 15 mins or longer and never got in a game.
If I am in an online single player game then I hit the PS4 Controller to bring up the selection for skills / map etc I can select COOP from there, on selecting Join a COOP Game - again I get a screen that finds a match but then turns to an error and kicks me out (Every Time)

But on creating a COOP match for someone else to Join this worked for me - I have not tried to invite a friend yet by creating a private COOP Match.
I certainly think there are issues on the PS4 with this (for me anyway)

Yeah its the same for me, I can start a co-op for someone to join me (not a friend) & thats it. I have another friend that is having the same problem but he said he can't even get co-op working at all. I dont think its a ping or other network issue because I've played co-op with people in the US (I'm in Australia) & have no problems with co-op on XB1. It seems to work for the majority on PS4, judging by little response to this thread.

just got done with a 4 to 5 hour co-op session with a friend on my buddy list on ps4. works just fine. sucks it only saves progress for host but i'm 15 hours ahead of him so we had him host so it really didn't matter. everything we did i had allready done. was a good time. default router settings.

The same for me. Sometimes the session works but only 1 of 20 tries. Also nat 2 with open ports... maybe a problem with ipv6 dual stack dslite?
