Dear Ubi, We Miss the Salad Days of FC2 Multiplayer

Excuse me while I whip this out.

As massive fans of Far Cry 2's multiplayer, my friends and I were thrilled to hear vehicles and big maps were making a return for FC4. We were nonplussed, to say the least, with the Call of Duty style of FC3 MP. I admit we were hesitant about the whole magic vs. guns aspect and the low player count of FC4's MP, but we reserved judgment until we could get our greedy hands on it ourselves.

We've done just that and we are once again disappointed with the experience. Sadly we agree with the reviews that say the MP is largely forgettable or that you won't spend much time on it. We have a few suggestions to make the MP more appetizing for those of us that miss the good old days of FC2 MP. First, I understand the desire to inject fresh ideas into the MP, but the history told through MP places restrictions on the fun that could be had. The modes and rounds model is fine, but allow guns and vehicles for each team, all the time. I know you get to switch teams each round so you're not bows and magic the whole time, but still. For those that dig the bows and slinging magic, this could be a loudout choice instead of something mandatory. One team could be the Golden Path cats and the other could be comprised of the hunter guys and the regular Pagan Minions (see what I did there?).

I know this scraps the whole story of the island's history approach, but I remember reading you chaps wanted the FC4 MP to have the longevity that didn't happen in FC3. To this I say take at look at what made the community of FC2 MP such a long running affair. Yes, it had a standard setup of modes and loadouts, but the vehicles and decent-sized maps led to all sorts of amusing chaos. It was unique in a land of sameness. The only other contender of similar style was Battlefield. I'm not saying to avoid attempts at innovation, but if the new ideas cramp the style of the MP, then try other innovations. Or go back to what worked. The Call of Duty style of FC3 MP was silly, as is this tomfoolery in FC4 where you're forced to use a particular loadout. FC2 MP was active long after release and for good reason. It even included a selection of user-made MP maps for DLC. The simple reason for this longevity is that the players loved it.

So that's our two pennies on the matter. If nothing else, allow us such changes in the Map Editor if it is updated to include MP editing. Throw us some loadout choices, higher player counts, etc.

I agree with everything that is said. Unfortunately, myself and others believe the wheels have already been set in motion (prior to FC3) to dismantle the MP and IGE from the FC series. The goal now is to pump out new FC games for single player as often as possible and sell other goodies thru downloads and season passes (C.O.D marketing). Anyone who remembers the good ole days of FC multiplayer and MP IGE, has the same reaction as you have. The goal of Ubisoft (IMO) is not to get back to those ideas that worked so well, but to go in a much different direction now. Atleast we have the memories to tell our grandkids about one day.

Man, I could not agree more. This is worded perfectly. Still sad though.
