I am new to FC as I haven't played a FC title since FC came out in 2004 and I remember I got slaughtered in FC1 as my health went down to 0 only after taking 3-4 shots.
Recently I have gotten back into PC gaming and I was wondering how difficult this title is compared to FC1? I only made it to mission 13 in the original before I gave up.
FC1 is really different from all the other FC games, for one thing it was made by Crytek while Ubisoft made the "sequels."
FC1 is definitely really dated and is a HARD old-school FPS game that isn't very forgiving, and it had difficult level design and ridiculous enemies, and the stealth was hard to pull off. FC2, 3 and 4 are a lot more reasonable in terms of being able to heal.
I'm playing FC4 on hard and it's a fun challenge but I do die a lot. I'm sure if you played on normal or easy you'd be fine. It's definitely a lot more forgiving than FC1, and you don't constantly die for cheap reasons.
The two games are not comparable really. But FC4 is (in my view) a lot more difficultOriginally Posted by Wongch26 Go to original post
FC4 moe difficult ? WOW... I have heard it all now? Did you even attempt to play the Original Far Cry?
This is like Comparing the Original Ghost Recon & Rainbow Six to UBI's so called Sequels.
The Original were true First Person Shooters... the Sequels are made for kids who like to seek flowers and look at movie scenes and call it a game. Here you can get shot, hide for a while and miraculously get your health back so you can continue to run and gun at your hearts content. Forget about being smart, nah, just run like a chicken with its head cut off and continue on.
Yes, FC4 is way more difficult...Bwahahahahahahahahah
I finished FC1 and it was very hard. It's not open world and the graphics are great but no where near the graphics in FC3 or FC4. The trigens and fat boys in FC1 were really difficult to kill. FC3 and FC4 has some really difficult parts also (I play on hardest level) and FC4 to me is not as quick in response as FC3 or FC1 so the game as a shooter is a bit more "laggy" and that makes it harder to deal with. If you played the latest Tomb Raider you know what I mean by not quick action in the fight scenes. My computer could be faster but Fraps states a good 40 -70 FPS with over 50 avg so it should not be laggy but it is. I like FC 3 and 4 much better than 1 for the graphics and different choices in how to proceed with the tactics. In FC 1 you really didn't have as much options it was a linear game and you had to come in from a certain spot and your choice of weapons was more limited. Stealth was almost impossible.Originally Posted by Wongch26 Go to original post
It's about as completely different from Far Cry 1 as you can get in a lot of ways, but it does retain some of the core elements. Difficulty luckily isn't one of them (I distinctly remember FC1 being tremendous fun until you hit the mutants, who just tore you apart over and over again. There are no mutants in this game, so it's really just focusing on the fun parts of the Far Cry experience).Originally Posted by Wongch26 Go to original post
It does however feel quite different to FC1, more "gamey" thanks to its console origins. In terms of a sequel to FC1 that feels very similar without the frustrating parts (and doesn't have the console feel), you might also want to look at Crysis 1, which was developed by the same team as FC1, and even that's nowhere near as hard as FC1 (in a good way, it's tremendous fun). Quite old now, but still looks as good as ever (and modern PCs can actually run it, as opposed to the ones that were around when it got released).
Are you sure you're comparing it to FC1 and not FC3? FC1 is infamous for being tremendously imbalanced the moment you encounter the Trigens, all other FCs are a walk in the park compared to it (and that's not a bad thing). During my younger days I persisted with it and got to the last level, where you ended up against dozens of bullet sponge enemies armed to the teeth with rocket launchers while you were chronically short on ammo (it was just stupidly difficult). The last time I tried booting it up though I couldn't muster the energy to even get past the first Trigen encounter, it was that difficult.Originally Posted by pduynstee Go to original post
FC3 is however quite easy and FC4 is a definite improvement on it in terms of balance.
