Constant stuttering in Ubisoft games with hyperthreading enabled

    Hi,

I've been investigating this all night and it's really starting to bug me. A couple of months ago I upgraded from an FX8350 + Asrock Extreme 3 to a 4790k + Maximus VII Ranger. I have a Dark Rock 3 on the 4790k and so have clocked it up to 4.5GHz boost (no need for more, right?). It's using adaptive voltage with a + offset, which seems to be running brilliantly.

I can play Battlefield 4 at max 1440p with my GTX 970 G1 and 4790k with Hyperthreading enabled at 60fps constant. All other games work superb, fluent and smooth gameplay.

HOWEVER, as soon as I enter a Ubisoft title, it goes wrong. EVERY Ubisoft game I have stutters like crazy with hyperthreading on. ACIII, ACIV Black Flag, Far Cry 3, Far Cry Blood Dragon, Far Cry 4 and also Freedom Cry. Every 4 seconds or so the screen will lock up for around half a second and it will create these noticeable lags and freezes.

When I go into BIOS and disable hyperthreading however, the games play smooth, in fact, incredibly smooth. No stutter, no lag, just pure 60fps 1440p.

It's no good me having to disable hyperthreading permanently in order to play these games as I do a lot of Handbrake encoding for which HT really helps out. I really do feel like something is wrong but cannot find it. Can someone please reassure me my CPU isn't K-nackered?

Wow, I was suffering from stuttering all the time. After reading your post, I disabled hyperthreading and now ... the game is super smooth on NVIDIA quality!

Thank you sir, it seems you've found the answer to the stuttering issues!

How many times have I said this??? Read my sig!!! This game has NEVER given me any issues!! My only problem is my skills in playing the game - killing this and that, etc., finding, staying alive and so on. Overclock as fast as you can: read the available guides - DON'T BUY CHEAP HARDWARE!!!

You are, without a doubt, the most insufferable PC gamer I have ever encountered online.

"Hey guys! Read my sig! I think my PC is awesome and I need some handshakes and backslaps for how awesome it is! Also, game runs fine for me, so based on my one datapoint, it must mean that everyone else's PC must be rubbish! You just bought crappy parts cause they aren't the parts I bought! Guys, read my sig! Awesome computer here, HELLO!? Need congratulations!"

I say that because it gives me great pleasure to tell you that my PC is significantly better than yours (hahaha you only have ONE GPU? Poor guy.), and the parts typically more expensive (maybe you shouldn't have bought cheaper hardware than me? See how nonsensical that is?), newer, and reviewed/stress-tested better. Guess what? Stutters galore.

That is all irrelevant though. Coming on a forum and telling everyone who meets or exceeds the recommended specs for the game they shouldn't be complaining about bad performance is foolish at best and braindead at worst. They have every right to complain if the game isn't performing acceptably at the recommended specs.

Do yourself a favour and keep quiet before thoroughly embarrassing yourself yet again.

While we are happy for you, not all of us have cheap hardware. In fact, my hardware is slightly improved over yours (970 for the GPU).

The stuttering is terrible at 1080p unless I disable the mipmaps.

I do not think DIgital Foundry, HardOCP, or many of us here have "cheap" hardware. Clearly there is a problem in most configurations. This should not be the case with my 2 systems below.

This should not be the case on the 980/970 cards (Digital Foundry and many of us here use) since Far Cry 4 is a promotion to show off how great the hardware is (and it really is amazing)

Is there any softwar to disable HT?

Can we assign the farcry 4 exe AFFINITY to just the cores? Is that 0,2,4,6??

firstly my pc isnt cheap.... looking at hardware -not massive difference..
but the game stutters like hell for me, especially when Hyper Threading was turned on,, not 100% stutter free now but it off, but its definatly playable ..

    *nice find*
*only 200 point difference on firestrike too, so Hyper Threading over Hyped ?

Glad it worked for you guys. So it's not just me then? Do other Ubisoft games stutter for you chaps too?

A guy posted this on my Tom's Hardware thread and said it may help, I'm going to try it now:

Set the affinity of ubisoft games to the real cores (0,2,4,6 i think, not sure really)."

That thread was supposed to show how Ubi Keiv is incompetent at optimizing PC games ( they was in charge of FC4 & Ac unity after all ) by not even been able to manage HT
When there is no issue with whatever other games, even the crappiest console port games ( execpt prototype 1.... )

And you succeed to turn it into : "i have the biggest and largest virtual d*ck than yours" just because of one stupid.... Jesus.

Anyways.... lets hope UbiStuff are going to do something about that, since they seem to care about the pc gaming...
