Please Try My Map, "Mountainside Outpost"

After many hours of mapping and just as many hours play-testing the map, I am very happy to publish my premier Far Cry 4 map on PS4, "Mountainside Outpost." The map is highly detailed and took over 40 hours to make. My PvP map editing roots really show through for this compact, but versatile map.

The map is varied but tightly interconnected offering multiple gameplay options. As you start, choose the cave to attempt a stealthy approach, cross the bridge to attempt an assault route, or traverse the ledge to gain access to ranged weapons. Pictures of the map are below. Please test the map out and let me know how I can approve it.

    Thanks!

Please try my revised version of this map, Mountain Outpost v2. I was not satisfied with getting such low ratings so I made some major tweaks to hopefully make it a more enjoyable experience. I seriously tweaked the stealth path (through the cave). One of my many tweaks is that I got rid of that horrendously difficult bear (the rare white crested bear) and replaced it with a standard bear which is much easier to defeat.

Please let me know how I can further improve it.

PS: I wish I could make it PvP as well. With just a few tweaks, I could make it a great PvP map.

How do you add the mountains in the background? Did you make them yourself or is the difference between PC and PS4 bigger than I thought?

Under environmental options, (water height, cloud type, fog, etc.) there is an option called "Show Vista". Selecting yes for this option displays the mountain backdrop. The other mountains in the background are from editing the terrain outside the playable area of the map. Hope that helped!

Yep, that option exists here, worked out just fine, thanks! Your map looks great btw

Looks OK, it is better than a majority of maps created on Farcry 4. However, never settle for just better. Here are a few things I would recommend.

    1. I would suggest making the mountains in your photo more realistic compared to the actual snowy mountain background that comes with the editor because it looks out of place.
    2. You need more textures on the mountains to make them more realistic, mountains won't be only grass. Same for the ground.
    3. Need more random objects scattered around to make it more realistic. The third photo, for example, has a few random objects around the statue but that is all. If objects are randomly scattered in one place it is usually best to do so in the rest of the map to keep a consistent theme. The map just feels empty of life. Make it feel like it is lived in.
    4. Combine some rocks with the terrain will make it feel much much better. I am not kidding, rocks are the bomb. Just make sure to turn the rock a little bit each time you place it so it is not the same.
    5. The terrain that you made is too tall, it needs to be more sloped and mountain-isk.
    6. Overall, the map just lacks stuff, there are no more than 5 buildings, from the pictures, and they are all default buildings, not custom. Building some custom buildings is really fun to do and challenging. Don't get me wrong, awesome maps can be built with default objects, but if one does use alot of default objects, take complete advantage of it and use it to the best of ones ability.
    7. Another option is to have something unique in the level that nobody has done. That may seem super duper obvious, it is, but very few people decide to build something besides your average town with some mountains.

Don't take this offensively just giving some feedback, do with it what you will.

PS: saying your map is highly detailed, but asking for feedback, is not the way to go. just saying.

Reeper, have you actually played the map? It just seems that a lot of your criticism is from the screen shots only. Even so, I agree with a lot of your criticisms. Unfortunately, I am already at the item limit and can't add more stuff in. You can see from the screenshots in the editor that I have more than 99% of the item limit. It really bugs me that the item limit is so low, especially considering that I have only used 44.5% of the memory and have performance in the perfect range. Why can't I push the item limit higher?

Also, I would have loved to make the mountains in the background snowy, but I am limited to only 4 textures (all of which I use for the map). Again this limit seems arbitrary to me, especially when there are so many options.

Also, the most helpful feedback is about gameplay. Is the map too hard? Are the attack options too limited? Is the map easy to navigate? Those type of criticism. I'd like to think that the layout of my map and the actual route options give it a lot of variety, replay-ability and uniqueness to the map. I hope players find that each path weaves into the map to build into something that is surprisingly interconnected and versatile.

Of course the criticisms are from the screenshots. In fact a screen shot is worth a thousand words and you gave several screenshots. You asked for feedback, and I gave it. You never said what type of feedback. If you want game play feedback this is the best I can give since I am on PC. You also posted in the general section, if you wanted only PS4 and Xbox one comments you should have posted in the console section.

    1. First off, people don't seem to realize this but how a map looks, affects the game play more than you can imagine. A person is much more likely going to go to a central focus point that looks the coolest and the most pleasing to the eyes. Which is why I mentioned in the previous post about making the map more detailed and the mountains look better.

    2. Too many routes is usually bad for a map. Your map is too open to the point that routes don't even matter. You can walk on the grass here and there and also here and also there. A good map, usually has no more than 3 to four routes in each direction, unless it is an RPG...and even RPG's have central focus points and certain routes to take.

    3. No landmarks, as I said previously there needs to be buildings or places or even mountains that draw the user's attention. Yes, they affect game play.

Concerning your object issue, part of editing with an object limit is planning out which objects you can use the most and ones you don't need to use at all. I have seen many on the PS4 who have no problem with the object issue. Again, not trying to sound rude, I am not being rude, just giving improvements that I notice from the screenshots.

One more thing, in my opinion, if a map has these three things it should be considered great: Game play, Creativity, Looks. Combine all three and a map is truly great. The same goes for games on today's market. Even though a game with only good game play and no looks might do better in sales than a game with really good looks and no game play, the game with horrible looks still won't be a 10 out of 10 rating without looking somewhat decent(environment) and being somewhat creative(story line, level layout).. Yes game play is the most important, but it can not reach its full potential without the creativity and looks behind it.
