Jeez what a clueless, selfish post. The FC games have always been heavily advertised on the sp story contents. It sells every bit as much as the mp.Originally Posted by LGz JETHRO66 Go to original post
BF, ARMA, etc, those are titles that were originally created for mp with sp addons. Far Cry's sp has always been given equal treatment if not more than it's mp component.
Obviously you're not part of the "mapping community" that has supported this game for many years. We're the ones that get the game and go straight to making maps and then playing them in multiplayer. Over these years, there has been hundreds (maybe thousands) of mappers that have created custom community multiplayer maps that have generated many hours of fun for the community. It keeps the game going many years after its release (Example FC2). These are the people who feel abandoned by the franchise. For others (like yourself) who enjoy the singleplayer, this is a great game. The singleplayer experience seems to be getting better with each release. I'm stating this because some of you all are not separating the differences within the FC community. Picture Ubisoft slowly taking the singleplayer experience away from the franchise and focusing instead on multiplayer mapmaking, how would you feel about that? You're a loyal FC community member and the singleplayer gets taken away and you then complain and someone on the forum tells you what a "clueless" post it was. Hope this helps clarify the situation.Originally Posted by Frag_Maniac Go to original post
No I'm not part of the mp mapping community, but that doesn't automatically make me clueless what sells the game. The first Far Cry had TONS of sp maps made for it, even some multi level mini games in sp. Ubi always put a lot of focus on stories, themes, and voice acting. They do that because it sells games. Their biggest selling title is AC, which primarily sells on it's story driven sp. You don't get to be as big as they are without having a pretty good idea what players want content wise. The creative end has always been their forte, not an addon like you make is sound. It's the technical end they always screw up on.Originally Posted by Shinyt4pestry71 Go to original post
I know what the mp community is like, I used to participate in it when I was in my 30s and 40s instead of my now 50s. I know the more hardcore of them are a tight knit bunch that have a lot of comradely, but the mp community as a whole also have a lot of disagreement among themselves and exaggeration when it comes to comparing mp's value to sp. Far Cry's core mp group is mostly comprised of online addicted repeat players, not vast numbers like you make it sound. Far Cry mp has never compared to the kiddie infested mp games number wise, like CoD, BF, etc.
So at the end of the day, I take all these mp exaggerations with a grain of salt. Ubi crunch numbers like any other devs. This is obviously just an exaggerated emotional rant about FC4 being stripped of an mp map editor that's filled with frustration more than numbers to back it up. Ubi don't make decisions like that if they have tons of people wanting it, it would only hurt them financially. This game will easily sell well enough on sp alone, and now a deserved Shooter of the Year status as well, regardless what any mp players say.
Again it's obvious you're a singleplayer gamer of the FC series, which means the direction of the franchise is firing on all cylinders right now. The point I and Jethro was trying to make was that if you're a multiplayer/editor gamer, then the direction of the FC series is falling flat on its face. I'm not arguing that Ubisoft shouldn't focus on the bottom line, I'm stating that the company has done a lousy job of being honest to some of it's most loyal customers. If the MP IGE has no future in the series, then simply tell us. Don't string us along in the build up of FC4 and then pull the rug out from under us at the last minute. Just a simple, "There will be no MP IGE at the launch of FC4" would of been nice. Because this wasn't done, some people are voicing their frustration. Unless you're some old cranky guy who only throws out passive-aggressive statements when someone is debating you, then hopefully I clarified myself. If not, then we'll agree to disagree.
And being irrespective of those only interested in sp in the process. Had you and he not conveyed it that way I'd have no problem with it. At the end of the day though, Ubi is no different than any other dev. They crunch the numbers and put the focus where the demand is. It's not like they're abandoning mp altogether, there's just no map editor for it. Get over it already and stop crying.Originally Posted by Shinyt4pestry71 Go to original post
I had my time with mp in my 30s and 40s. I don't need to continue on with it in my 50s to appease the modern generation of ungrateful mp bastards. Back when I was playing the mp crowd was more friendly and tolerant, not the sappy whiners you see today. We didn't whine about no mp map editors,.We played the mp as is and loved it and respected each other.
I take it that you're an old cranky guy who likes to throw around passive-aggressive statements to those who have an opinion you don't like. And might I add crazy to that also. Also, since there's not much demand for the multiplayer/editor it's funny how the thread, "No Multiplayer Maps CONFIRMED for Map Editor" in the Farcry 4 Map Making Forum has over 28,000 views and 352 replies for it. I'll stop my crying now.Originally Posted by Frag_Maniac Go to original post
If they made one set during the Vietnam war that starts with a helicopter being shot down and getting lost deep within Vietnam as a sole survivor, you should not be a soldier but instead maybe a war journalist... and the main character should be of Vietnamese decent that grew up in America, that way its believable that he would be able to get around with some ease when it comes to the local populace while still having a reason for the location to be a foreign place to the MC and ourselves. He could be torn between getting caught up in helping a village of people who rescued him and escaping to get back home to his family, maybe a wife, pregnant with a child or something. This is actually kind of a cool idea.
They really love their patented multi-billion dollar DesynchroHost-matchmaking technology, which brings true next-gen host migrations (and zero "is this player a good potential host?" tests during the game before deciding who will be the host...) to the game, which guarantees "Host migration failed" and a nice ride back to the main menu.Originally Posted by backpa9 Go to original post
No, but seriously, dedicated servers are for the developers themselves in fact CHEAPER than running a matchmaking system constantly. A server list is much easier to implement properly, and since we know Ubisoft has a history of screwing up everything if it has something to do with the internet or LAN... (Can't think of any Ubisoft games that have a decent networking system, in terms of ping, stability and prediction, during the last decade?), and that is solely because the Ubisoft management simply doesn't care. They wouldn't offload every damn game's networking to Ubisoft Reflections, if they did, they'd develop the networking at their main studios; but apparently, there's simply no-one that even knows when to use TCP over UDP employed in there...
...Nor has any idea how to show ping as a number in the scoreboard. I seriously can't believe how badly implemented the thing is; Crysis (1) had no problems having all the SP destruction in MP (for some reason DX10 server-exclusive though) and synced, and more going on anyway, but FC2 to FC4 fail at having... Very few players, few guns and a few vehicles that actually update with a proper tickrate.
I don't know, it seems like gaming has become bugging, crashing and developers who think of their game as a perfect vision of creativity and completely flawless, disallowing changing it to suit the players' preferences?
