FWIW - What is the BSoD code you're getting? (download NirSoft's BlueSceenView to see this) Are you overclocked? Is all of your system firmaware (BIOS, chipset, USB, network, sound) at the latest revisions? Are you monitoring the cooling? Dust?

Thanks so much for the reply. Downloaded the bluescreen utility. It highlighted the following 3 items as errors: dxgkrnl.sys dxgmms1.sys and nvlddmkm.sys

    dxgkrnl.sys dxgkrnl.sys+5d134 fffff880`0428c000 fffff880`04381000 0x000f5000 0x539e411c 16/06/2014 00:58:04 Microsoft® Windows® Operating System DirectX Graphics Kernel 6.1.7601.18510 (win7sp1_gdr.140615-1511) Microsoft Corporation C:\Windows\system32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the 344.75 drivers. Same problem. Have checked the bios, windows drivers, and other drivers, all up to date. I don't overclock anything. Large well ventilated case with fans.

    Cheers

    GTX970 BSOD problem Solved

Thanks again, problem solved. The GPU fans were not working so the temps rose to the point of BSOD. Explains why performance was normal for the first minute then slowly degraded to BSOD. The GTX 970 was throttling back to cope with the temps and then just gave up.

Solution was to make sure the MSI GPU fans were in auto mode. They were off which is normal for the GTX970 when not gaming.

Your comments definitely pointed my problem solving in a different direction.

Wait how do you check patch version without being in game? And I have the same problem of black screen on start up and I have AMD phenom II x4 955 and a Geforce 9800gt so im really confused on why it happens also will drivers for a controller cause the problem because I installed som drivers along time ago but I cant find them anywhere on my pc.

I was having various issues like freezes on start (press any button screen) black screen etc. before I made it run.
So here is what I have done. First of, I reverted back to Nvidia Driver 344.65. I tried all of the drivers, these are the only stable for me. EVGA GTX 580 Classified 3GB.
Once you are done, try to run your game in borderless.
Press the start button type in Far cry 4 among other things there will be folder called fcc08ad9-29af-4674-a09e-1a2dba8e533f or something similar. open it, you will see GamerProfile make a copy of it as back up and then right click on that and edit. Press CTR+F type in fullscreen enter
It will find the "Fullscreen="1" change 1 to 0. Next to it is Broderless="0" change 0 to 1
    Also change DisableLoadingMip0 to 1
    MouseAccelerationOn to 0
    UseMouseSmooth to 0

    Save it
    Try to run the game.

I also had to go to the game installation folder the into the BIN folder and had to change the compatibility of the FarCry4.exe to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Windows 7 even though I have Win 7 Ultimate 64bit version. That was weird. and also apply "Privilege Level" to run as administrator.

And last I had to disable steam and ubisoft in game overlay.

    Good luck man.
