Windows 7 Crashes w/ Black Screen and Buzzing Noises!

The title says it all, really. I have seen several complaints about black screens, especially upon starting the game, but I haven't seen any complaints like this. For the first twenty-five, or so hours of play, my biggest gripe has been the frame rate randomly dropping into the single digits, from an average of sixty. Today, the game started crashing my computer, locking it up on a black screen, with low frequency humming tones coming from the speakers. It did it three times, within about forty-five minutes, with cold boots in-between. When it does this, Windows does not respond to Control-Alt-Delete and the machine must be power-cycled. Oh, and this does not happen when booting the game. The first time it happened, I had been playing for a few hours. The last time happened was within seven minutes of a cold boot.

There have been remarks alluding to a "Black Screen Fix" being included in the next patch. Does anyone have any idea if this type of failure will be addressed by said patch?

    Thanks!

Is it still happening to you? Have that problem too! Hope that it's not problem with our PCs. :/

BTW. What GPU do you have, and which drivers are you using?

I was running an EVGA GTX 780, with the latest 344.xx nVidia drivers. Ubi took well over a week and a half to reply to my support ticket, so I got impatient. I pulled the 780 out and put a MSI GTX 470 in. Obviously, I had to throttle the video quality settings back a bit, but the 470 has been chugging along without any problems.

If the GTX 780 and an AMD Phenom X6 sounds like an odd couple, you'd probably be right. The 780 is new and I was burning it in, while I collect parts to finish a new gaming rig. In a couple of days we'll see if the GTX 780 still locks up to a black screen when paired with my new Intel i7.
