"Cannot connect to game session" when starting an OFFLINE game

Just bought the game on Amazon, put the code into U*Play, installed and tried to start a new game. Selected OFFLINE mode and get a loading screen with the odd throat singing sound in the background, loading bar progresses to the end and then screen goes black for half a second and get a new loading screen. Looks exactly the same but this time don't get any sounds, that loads then I get an error message saying "Cannot connect to game session. Try again later" and then sent straight back to the main menu. I'm not sure what game session it thinks its trying to connect to, given that I selected offline mode.

Have tried again with online mode with no luck, tried with U**Play set to offline mode, still no luck. Tried with router DMZ enabled, nothing. Checked your "How to connect" guide with the usual rubber stamp "i'm sure this is not our fault" solutions and none of them make a difference. Virus scanner is up to date and functioning properly, disabling makes no difference. Tried with Hamachi and all other network software disabled, no difference. Did all that DNS flush and hosts file nonsense, nothing! Haven't tried it with the actual ethernet cable unplugged, but am pretty sure it wouldn't even let me start the game like that, plus if I have to unplug the ethernet cable to play the game then I'm just getting a refund anyway. I'm not sure why you thought it necessary for the singleplayer, offline campaign to connect to anything at all, but I can tell you that it was a really really poor decision, especially given Ubis track record with online features.

    Update

Interesting addition here, I just successfully joined a multiplayer map. I had to give up on it quite quickly because of a different bug (this time just got a black screen because I made the grave mistake of pressing the Escape key) but connection-wise all was well. So can someone please explain to me why I am having more luck connecting to someone else's computer than I am my own?

    What?!?!

Funny story, it turns out if I DO unplug my ethernet cable and try to start single player, it works fine. No problems at all. For some reason selecting an offline game tries to connect to a server anyway and it looks like it's clever enough to tell when it has no internet connection at all and so will just run entirely locally, but it's stupid enough that if you are connected to the internet, it will randomly try to connect to one of Ubi's servers even when you have selected offline and, if it can't connect to that server, will just give you an error message instead of defaulting to a totally offline mode and actually letting you play.

I find this rather silly, but if you are having this problem then give this a go.

Edit: I am now able to play the game with the ethernet cable back in, so either it is only a problem with creating a new game or whatever server it was trying to connect to is back up again.

    Cannot connect to game session

I'm having the same problem getting started. and the one time I did get in i had to try and figure out why i couldn't read anything. all those notes around that first area i could go to them and interact with them but nothing would pop up too read. after a little bit and some changing of graphics settings i got that too work but had to start over. and when i can get past the can not connect error is slim at best 2 times out of so many times so far.

Everything you said here is EXACTLY what is going on with my game. PC download bought from Amazon, everything.

Another peculiar thing, though....my screen goes black (with sound still) after every change of screen, forcing me to "CTRL-ALT-DELETE" to Task Manager. I've noticed that if I press "cancel" instead of Task Manager, it will bring me to whatever screen I can hear (example: after initial loading screen, the ubisoft and nvidia logos pop up just fine, then the elephant and tiger colliding.....but immediately goes to black screen with sound of title screen. CTRL-ALT-DELETE and "cancel" sends me to the title screen).

Buuuuut....unfortunately, no progress actually being able to play the game. I'm simply stuck at "Error: Cannot connect to game session. Please try again later."

Now get this: I press ok, and my screen goes black but I hear the title screen........CTRL-ALT-DELETE, "cancel" and ..........BAM, back to the title screen with the Elephant in the water.

    What....the....freak?

Me too, cannot play it because of the same error. Almost every screen I have to ALT-TAB or CTRL-ALT-DELETE, then back to the game to progress to next screen. And then two loading screens and "Error: Cannot connect to game session. Please try again later." I haven't played it at all.

    Having this problem as well.

I've noticed that this only started to happen after I downloaded the UPLAY app to get the AJM sidearm for 30 Uplay credits. I plan on uninstalling uplay. Maybe that'll fix the issue. Either way, this is MASSIVE issue, and it really surprises me that it hasn't been fixed yet.
