Missing Knife Glitch - Can't do takedowns

    Hello dear forum users!
I have a weird bug/glitch in Far Cry 4 where my knife has disappeared. I can't complete any knife actions, F button doesn't work, I can't do any kind of takedown etc.
The only knife action I can complete is skinning animals and then the knife won't be visible at all during the animation!
My conclusion is that my save file seems to have become corrupted. I downloaded another save file online and replacesd mine and the knife works perfectly again, starting a new game also fixes the issue.
I can't find anyone else online that has experienced this issue so far.
I've completed 30% of the game so it would be a bit of a pain to replay everything and I can't find a save file online that has completed more than 5%.
If anyone has a fix for this issue it would be greatly appreciated, or if someone has a save file for ~30% of the game that is available online.

    Thank you for your time.

    Later Save files now available

I found save files available for download that have progressed further into the story. Still haven't found a fix for the actual knife glitch, but at least I don't have to restart the game.
Despite everything I still love FC4 so far but advise anyone who plays to back up their save files at regular intervals as there are *cough* a few issues with the game so far.
Latest working save file I could find: http://www.downloads.techdiscussion....own-save-game/

Yup, seen this issue. I think I remember the same issue happening in FC2 or FC3, I believe it was solveable there because you can buy a different knife (been a while, can't remember). Basically, the knife gets unequipped - you can't melee and you can't do takedowns. You can still skin animals and liberate outposts despite both of those requiring the knife - I'm guessing it's because they're different functions (the "use" function), while the melee and takedown are bound to the same one. Somehow, the knife DOES appear to be there when fighting off/stabbing the Devilfish, but it doesn't solve the issue/make the knife usable again.

The knife does appear and works normally while in the Arena, presumably because you get a new one. However, again, the issue is not resolved on exit. I believe the same works in the first Shangri-La mission with Kalinag, again, because you pick up a different knife and again, on exit, the bug remains.

I believe the cause of the issue is finishing an outpost liberation (at least a specific outpost) with a takedown, or possibly more precisely, the Death From Above (jumping/falling) takedown.

If the knife is indeed simply unequipped somehow, a simple workaround would be to add it to the store, so it could be reequipped manually, though of course, with the takedowns being such a large part of the game, actually solving the issue would be preferable. I'd still recommend adding it to the store though, as the bug may have several different causes and if the knife can get unequipped like the weapons, it should be possible to equip it the same way.

Thank you for your comment, very helpful.
I did liberate an outpost shortly before I noticed the issue. And I definitely did try out the death from above takedown as I had just learned it in the skill tree. I will experiment a bit with a backed-up save file and see if I can trigger the glitch again.

A buddy of mine has the same problem with the same conditions apparently.
I have tried killing from above but it doesn't work, I just land flat on the guy and nothing happens except me getting shot.
I'll get you updated if I figure something out.

    Ditto

You're not alone mate, my friend just started experiencing this too, he didn't do anything specifically to trigger this.
He just logged on, and boom, no knife.

It may also be worth noting that when he restarted the game to attempt to fix it, his settings (Graphical, key-binds.) all reset too.

A lot of people seem to be having this problem, taking into account the high view count of this thread.

Will be very pleased if someone has a solution.

    Thanks!

    How to fix

This bug also happened to me and it's easy to fix this bug. the game makes a backup of the profile folder every time it saves. then you go in profiles folder that is in the folder where the game is installed and you will in bin. there you will find three folders: Profile, Profile.backup and savegames. You will open Profile.backup and it will have a lot of .rar files. Now just find out which one is the save before you win an outpost with death from above.

So the game makes backups of save files. Thanks, that could help... but it's not really a permanent solution, just a way to load an earlier save file (something that could've been made a lot easier btw, especially as the groundwork is already there).

I'm still not sure if Death From Above is actually the cause of the bug and even if it was, it would need to be fixed. Unless this is a bug that occurs during a specific event in the game (and thus this procedure would only need to be done once to avoid it), rummaging through the backup saves that you have to copy-paste-check and then rinse and repeat until you find one every single time it happens is just... awful. The bug itself caused me to put the game on the backburner, this solution (if it even works, the bug could just happen again at the same point for a reason different than the player doing something very specific) is not something I'd be willing to do again and again just to get through the game.

An official response would be much appreciated. Is Ubisoft even aware of this bug? Do they know what causes it and do they have any plans to fix it?

I know that in FC3 you lost your machete/knife if you changed Machete="0" to Machete="1" in your GamerProfile.xml, a lot of people did that mistake and the only thing then is to change it back and restart the game...at least it is Worth a try but remember to backup your save if this is not the problem.
