HI there,
So, I've been having fun since FC4's fantastic launch (sigh...) experiencing the beautiful vistas and exciting action of crashing on startup and blackscreens and I was stoked to see the news post about patch 1.4. Then I get to thinking, 'Why have I never seen any evidence of the game trying to patch itself?' I tried to verify the version of my game but had a lot of trouble finding the number until I checked the .exe itself and found it was at 1.0.1. I then tried to find a way to patch the game but I am at my wits end with it.So I thought I'd read up and try again today. I found out how UPlay does its patching and tried it on FC4. No dice. I even tried a complete reinstall of the game with no luck. I verified the game's files thinking it might work... nope! I then tried, in my desperation, to patch AC: IV just to see if it worked for any game. (Dun dun Duuuun!!) It patched just as it should have done. Seriously!!?! What is going on here. First Ubi releases a game without even the most basic of attempts at bugfixing, and then I find that I can't even patch it when they do!!?
Anyone else having this problem and, if so, anyone got any ideas on getting past it. I started AC4 and it promted me to patch or play offline. I start FC4 it syncs the saves I don't have, 'cause I've never gotten it running, and then trys to run... No prompt to patch... Just an appcrash with a little black window behind it... I just don't know whether I can be arsed with this any more. I can't say I'll be pre-ordering any Ubi games in the future, maybe even just avoid their games. Companies that only program for PC, as a ported afterthought, are just wrong especially when the best platform for showing off their creativity and vision is the PC!!!
Anyway, thanks for viewing this rant...Any help appreciated as I said before and, for what it's worth Ubi, I don't hate you, I just hate corporate philosophy toward consumers these days.
Here here, well said.Originally Posted by Tyras_385 Go to original post
I'm in the same boat as you, game won't launch, and it won't patch.
I wonder if anyone knows the procedure for getting a refund, I don't have a background in commercial law so I'm quite poorly informed on the subject
Thanks for the reply but, as I said above, my game won't even start. I cannot get to the main menu so I can't check it for the version. It should really tell you the version number or give patch history on UPlay. Alas, that isn't the case.Originally Posted by Kamidel Go to original post
Same problem mate, I wrote on this forum, but got no answer. Yesterday Uplay downloaded 3GB something for Far Cry 4, readme file says the game is still 1.01, also canīt get to even to menu, it randomly crashes during logos. Well, it let me go into game twice (and then crashed xD), but i forgot to check the version in menu. Today, 1.4 should exist, but Uplay didnīt download anything. And as you say what you tried to do, i tried too., nothing helps.
On the other side, there is what helped me to get to playing for even that moment, but not completely sure by what it is: I disabled everything "after start" programs except windows ones and also services the same way (the button just next to it in that window). It will want to restart your pc, and after disabling that services too. Then I deleted all temporary files and restarted again. I got to game with no problem, worked fine. Well not compleely fine, the fps were low, so I changed to stronger card (by catalyst control center) without closing the game (just alt+tab) and played half an hour till it crashed. From this crash, I wasnīt able to start the game again (again crashes during logos).
Today, I started laptop and went directly play (without changing g. card). I got to game with no problem, but low fps of course. I closed the game and changed card. Couldnīt run it. So one would think it is problem with that card, right? But when I change to first g. card it canīt even get to logos, it stops with black screen in windowed mode. Catalyst control center just must have "unset" option (using slower card, but not officialy). Strange, very strange...
Anyway, you can try that with that startup thing and temp files, it was when i ran the game first time farer than into logos xD

Just thort id inform you if your in the uk, you have 30days from resivle date to e-mail a complaint requesting a refund then as you made an effort (might be best to send more then one) and they should refund you for it one would hope as if not there braking the law.
I must admit your problems sound like the AMD running poorly issues that I have seen elsewhere when you are in game. When you did the startup disabling you must have disabled something that was causing probs with the game. I haven't gotten anything on UPlay in terms of updates for FC4 though. I tried everything short of reinstalling windows to get it working with no luck. I'll post my system specs here too just in case...:
Win7 x64
I5 2500K @ 3.7GHz
16GB RAM @ 2333MHz
MSI GTX780Ti @ 3GB vRAM
Creative SB XFI Titanium Sound Card
I have the same problem with the black screen bug and i thought the game would refuse to patch, cause it hadn't download anything since i installed it.
By deinstalling 6 or 7 HDI Driver from the System (which Windows will reinstall by system restart) i get the game to start and yes... in the main menu it says 1.3. while the Farcry.exe is still 0.1.0.1
So if you did a fresh installation (mine is from yesterday) you should have all the patches they made public.
