    I'm having the exact same problem - My game version has been stuck on v1.0.1 since launch, and I just get the black screen / CTD with a windows error upon trying to launch the game. I really am starting to miss the days where you could just donwload patches from a game's website and don't have to rely on the obviously broken automatic patching mechanisms.

    Do you mean you get the 00005 pop up after a black screen? If so that is slightly different as i don't even get that far. Nothing loads at all and then the pop up error appears.

    have you both tried plugging in the activation key again?

    I thought if it recognised the game key it might trigger it into patching, but alas, no luck for me

    Yeah, I'm getting the 000005 error after a black or grey windows pops up. What's weird is that the first few times I launched the game, I just got the black screen without it crashing, and I had to force close it in task manager. But now just crashes a few seconds after the black screen or window for the game comes up.

    I guess the serial thing can't hurt. I just reinstalled completely re-downloaded from Steam, so we'll see what happens

    So do we think the problem is that we are just not getting a patch we should be getting? Can anyone confirm what version of the game we should have? How do you find this out btw?

    I should have completed my re-download by tomorrow evening.

    This should be top of their priority list, the people who can't even start the game...

    How this wasn't picked up in testing I'll never know.

    Game has been broken now for 2 days / 20 hours / 40 minutes, with no working resolution.

    As Ubi customers we're like Alzheimers victims in a ***** house. We're constantly surprised that we're being screwed ... and we don't want to pay for it

    We should be on 1.3 I believe (or 0.1.0.3). Event Viewer will tell you what version your game is.

    Guys, I had the same issue... Finally got it working after a 3rd re-install attempt, but I believe what did it was disabling the Steam Overlay, and also disabling the Uplay overlay in uplay settings. I also had to close out of Evga precision (same as msi afterburner if you use that).

    sadly I'm not running Evga or MSI applications or services. I have Asus equivalent, but neither the service or applications are running.

    I can confirm however that the basic troubleshooting steps outlined here do not work for me

    additionally I tried unplugging my Corsair K70 keyboard & uninstalling logitech setpoint, but that doesn't have any impact on the error.
