HAHAHA! I was imagining the same thing before! Why do they ruin the hard work of the visual department by putting loads of cr*p on the screen. Or the question rather should be; why does the visual department tolerate this??Originally Posted by PrimeTimePatou Go to original post
You are right. Ubisoft listened to us once and implemented at least some options to reduce HUD in Far Cry 3 afterwards. But what I dont't understand is why they only made it half-heartedly in Far Cry 4 instead of getting serious and implementing options for every player's taste. It is not a big deal and almost all good games have been giving us these options for decades. Look at the Grand Theft Auto series, for instance.Originally Posted by OurJud Go to original post
And OurJUd, you said before that 3rd person games don't have any immersion to begin with. I must disagree on that. Red Dead Redemption. Try that game with no HUD, no map, no anything and it will suck you inside 1911 and the western era like no movie or literature could do. It was the most immersive gaming experience in my whole and extensive gaming career, trust me!
Funny you should mention GTA, as it looks like Rockstar has let fans of HUDless gaming down with their latest installment. I can't remember what the HUD option on previous GTA games were, but as I alluded to in a previous post here, I was still investigating if a clear, uninterrupted screen was possible in GTAV, and it seems it isn't.Originally Posted by LostSoul90 Go to original post
I have HUD off, all notifications disabled, but you still get a flood of annoying little message (updating the status of other players) popping up when playing online. Every 10 seconds it's "[player name] died", "[player name] just set a bounty of $9,000 on [player name]", "[player name] committed suicide"
Even playing offline you're not left alone, as there's a constant flood of other types of messages (mission objectives, contact details, tutorials). I think the only way to play with a clear screen and uninterrupted will be to finish the game so that there's nothing more for you to do.
There is a 'sleep mode' which halts the story if you just want to free-roam for a while, and I thought this was going to be the answer, but annoyingly switching to sleep mode sets a 'zzz' phone icon on your screen.
I just came across this thread and I wanna say I completely and utterly agree with the OP!!!
I'm so surprised that they gave us NO option to disable the highly distracting and immersion-killing HUD elements & the very distracting noises. For instance the funny sound when you aim the sniper rifle and there's an enemy in sight.
Also wish we could holster / hide the weapon. Gta5 lets you put away the gun!
Another horrible thing is "tagging". I never ever use the binoculars because that Superman xray vision is another immersion killer. And did I.mention the hilarious laser beams from the enemy snipers lol. Let us disable that too!
I love this game and the ps4 one looks fantastic but I also know that if Ubisoft does not let give us control over all this I will move to the PC game where mods will sort all these problems out! The mods for FC3 really fixed things and the same will happen for FC4.
I've never embraced PC gaming, but I know what you mean. I watched a youtube clip of someone playing FC3 on PC, where he'd modded all the screen clutter out. It looked glorious!! No magic abilities to see-through walls, no button prompts, no flashing targets... no nothing at ANY point.Originally Posted by DV20Katana Go to original post
I'm sure I'm not the only person here to have imagined how much better they could have made a game, given complete control over the programmers and designers. I sometimes lie in bed at night and imagine the ultimate, 1st-person, openworld game. Just give me control over a team of top programmers and designers and I'd give you the greatest game ever![]()
No offense ''OurJud'', but nobody will buy your game... Well not the majority anyways. Kids these days are more interested about leveling up or getting achievements instead of having GREAT gameplay... Don't know why but that's a fact....
The other day I was at my 13 year old nephew, he was playing FarCry 4, I told him to play the game and removing all the HUD stuff that he can so that he will be immersed more in the game and he looked at me like I was an alien and continued to play with his friend with everything on still holding him by the hand.... Sigh !
Oh, don't get me wrong. I would never force 'no HUD' on gamers. That would be as wrong as not offering it as an option. I probably wouldn't even make 'no HUD' the default setting, but rest assured the option would be there, and it would disable everything at all times.Originally Posted by PrimeTimePatou Go to original post
As I said in an earlier post, the only console FPS I've even known where all the HUD can be totally disabled, is the Killzone series. It's just a shame their PS4 episode in the series turned out to be a Crysis clone.
That's sad. I didn't like the latest GTA installment anyway so I didn't bother with the kiddy-infested multiplayer in the first place. Guys who constantly shoot you or hit you with a car although you've visibly enabled passive mode is no fun to me. As if that wasn't annoying enough, people discovered tanks to block other player's street doors so they can't get out of their own apartments!Originally Posted by OurJud Go to original post
GTA IV had an option to turn off the hud entirely, same as Red Dead Redemption. But Rockstar has been going the wrong direction since then anyway....

Not only in terms of HUD but also in terms of character design, gameplay design/ balancing and graphical improvements. There are mindblowing mods out there for almost every multiplatform game. Look at some Skyrim mods and overhauls, redesigns and enhancements, for instance. They are a hundred times better than the vanilla game, made for free by gamers like you and me with limited capacities!
And what do professional game developers offer? Half-baked software junk at best....
If you look at this mod for Fallout 3, you will understand what I mean. Look closely at those cloned and fugly NPC faces, created by the renowned developers of Bethesda Softworks, and then look at the faces that were created by an amateur modder - one single person, I might add!
Click on "images" and have a look, scroll down and also look at the following pages!

Why can't a large team, consisting of well payed art- and graphic designers - who call themselves "visual department" - create such faces, when only one single amateur person can achieve that level of detail and quality? What is wrong with the gaming industry these days??
To answer my aforementioned question by myself....EXACTLY this is wrong with gaming nowadays. I have nephews too, and they/ resp. their friends are the same as your nephew. They don't know sh*t about immersion or demanding gameplay. They like to be taken by the hand the entire game and disable their brains.Originally Posted by PrimeTimePatou Go to original post
Killzone without HUD was no fun to me to be honest. If they had implemented a function to temporarily show the misson objective marker (only as long as you press a button), it would've been perfect. By far the most annoying thing in ego shooters is the crosshair though. Who in god's name invented this huge and unnecessary eyesore? Sadly, the most ego shooters don't even have an option to turn it off. Luckily, Far Cry 4 has it. By the way - I would SO buy your HUDless game....Originally Posted by OurJud Go to original post![]()
I know what you mean about griefers, but they are avoidable. I was also a little hasty in saying that not all the HUD could be disabled. Don't get me wrong, there are still some very minor elements that can't yet be disabled, but by far the best and most immersive way to play is online in a SOLO session. This way, the regular pop-up HUD elements that you get when playing in full lobbies, are stripped down to an absolute minimum. I would say that in a solo session, the screen is totally clear for 95% of the time, with just very very occasional pop-ups, such as a little phone icon to say you've had a job invite (can be cleared by reading the opening/closing the message).Originally Posted by LostSoul90 Go to original post
Those face mods in Fallout 3 are so much better than the original - staggering that one man can do such a better job than a team of professionals.
I know I'm late to the party, but I've only just got hold of a copy of this game and wanted to share more of my thoughts on the HUD now that I own it.
Of course, the first thing I did was go into options to see what I could disable. Initially things were encouraging, with feature after feature that could be disabled. Finally a HUD-free screen... except it isn't, because of the infuriating button prompts that pop-up EVERY time we come across something with which we can interact.
Please tell me, Ubisoft, why do you presume your players need telling to 'Hold O...' or 'Press X...', each and EVERY time they come to a door... or chest... or dead body, or cliff ledge? Why can't we be told these things in a quick tutorial, or in the booklet?
Worst of all, though, is the button prompts for vehicle use. Every time we want to use a vehicle, we're told how to open the door. Then when we get settled inside, we're told how to drive the car. And if all that wasn't bad enough, as soon as we stop, we get a huge prompt in the middle of the screen telling us how to exit the vehicle. For Christ sake! Credit your players with at least some intelligence and common sense!!!
Why can't I decide when I want to exit a vehicle? Why do you presume that as soon as I stop, it's because I want to get out?? And boy, don't even get me started on the hand glider button prompts!!
I know it's too late to hope for any patches or updates now, but just on the off-chance, pleeeease give us an option to turn off button prompts.
