Screeeech! Peck! Peck Peck! Peck! Peck!
That has been my experience any time I have stood still for more than 5 seconds to enjoy any vista in this game.
Stopped to look for herbs? Pecked.
Stopped to admire the view? Pecked.
Stopped to survey an outpost? Pecked.
Stopped to determine gunfire location? Pecked.
God-dammit those things are annoying.
I am about 6 hours into the game. Can others tell me if this is just a regular occurrence in the opening area? Will instant 75% health reduction instances cease when I get a bit further out? Can you craft Eagle repellent?!
I am really loving the game so far but for this one INCREDIBLE annoyance. I don't want to spend my time running around looking at the sky. I don't want to HAVE to waste a weapon slot carrying a shotgun at all times.
Is it possible to modify the game files to reduce the sheer numbers of these things? East of the first village you start in, the sky is practically dark with these winged d-bags.
Yeah i know what you mean. It's Morrowind all over again.
Plus, they seem to be the most dangerous foe for Golden Path Members too. I had an occurence, where i saved 3 or 4 Rebels from Royal Soldiers in a Karma Event, just to hear them screaming out for an Eagle Attack a couple of seconds later and lost two men to one of these suckers.
Another Time i wanted to sell some Loot to a Sherpa, just to see him attacked by an Eagle before i could reach him.
I must have already sold a ton of Feathers to Trading Posts. This Birdies are way too frequent.
On the other Hand, it's funny to see an Eagle carry a Goat away.
I can't tell for sure, but i think the Eagle attacks got less frequent in my game when i got more east of the starting area.
LOL, yes, the eagles are a pita! Having said that, I know it's odd, but I wouldn't have it any other way. You see, I play for how the game makes me feel/react. Obviously I'd never miss them or wish they were there had the devs not put them there, but as it stands, it's just another game element that tends to mix it up.
Ergo, you have to be on your toes, and I like having the crap scared out of me while I'm playing. Of course I've only been attacked or had to defend someone about 10 times so far, but I have to say it ramped the excitement up a notch or two each time, frankly, that's WHY I play.

I get what you are saying. I am one of the odd ones who preferred Far Cry 2 to Far Cry 3 for that reason (after some mods to tweak AI behaviour and weapon damage) . No intrusive HUD and awful detection meter meant you had to weigh risks and use your eyes to find threats.Originally Posted by Far_Cry2_Fan Go to original post
For this reason I have turned off threat meter, mini map, mission reminders, and other clutter and refuse to use the wall-hack spotting. It adds so much more immersion. Having to listen out for animal noises DID add an extra level of tension to FC3. Those Komodo Dragons screwed up more than a few stealthy approaches.
But being attacked without chance for avoidance, without a quick-time "slap the bird" option, and have this happen continually when you are in a certain large area is plain irksome. I am fast-travelling and auto-driving everywhere already just to avoid this one PITA.
Eagles are so annoying, but also provided me with one of my best (so far) in-game moments. Was out hunting, when an eagle swooped on a deer, started carrying it off. Got a one hit on the eagle with my recurve bow, bagged 2 black eagle feathers, and the hide from the prey too. That was class, and put a massive stupid grin on my face.
