So far, I'm enjoying FC4 a lot!
They managed to fix my biggest problem with FC3, which was that all the loot chests and collectibles would be tagged from a mile away, and would show up on the minimap. That meant that finding them just had you following symbols on the map. When I removed the minimap with a mod, I enjoyed exploring much more, because I could find these hidden nooks by myself, and so spent more time looking at the beautiful environment, instead of dashing in for the loot and moving on. That is not a perfect solution, because I would still like tagged enemies on my minimap, I just want to avoid the exploration "helpers".
So I find it great that now in Far Cry 4 I can filter out which stuff I want to show on my map, and tailor my experience. It helps a lot, however, there are a few bugs/problems with this (I play on PC):
1. The game should save my filters. It's a bit annoying that every time I start the game I have to turn off all the collectibles on the map, while carefully averting my eyes from possibly spoiling their location. I don't care whether this setup is saved for the install, or for each separate campaign, but it should be saved.
2. There's a bug, where if I turn off the minimap in the interface options, I can't change the filters in the regular map. The filter menu is empty, the options are missing, it's an empty screen. This is clearly a bug that should be fixed.
3. This is the most subjective one, but I'd like to be able to turn the plants off on the minimap too. They are also an exploration "reward", and it's still annoying to me that they're explicitely pointed out to me. It's weird that it can't be turned off, it's not essential like my position or the current objective (that also can't be turned off). Is it a technical limitation? Because they don't show up on the regular map, only on the minimap, they are somehow different?
Anyway, these are my complaints, but the current state is already much better than FC3 was, I can enjoy this one without any mods
Good day!
