FAR CRY 4'S MAP EDITOR so far

I have been playing around with the Editor for a few hours now and in my personal opinion it has been refined and is an incredible tool in very creative hands in which it boasts insane potential. I do not say this lightly as i'm disappointed there is no multiplayer option. As i mentioned before in the right hands we will not see the real benefits of this map editor until about a month or so when someone creates a real good looking map but for me i'm very happy with it so far. (Please do not mistake me for a fan boy). I hated far cry 3 ME and came from a large community of editors and i also am displeased with some of the decisions made. I would say cool down and enjoy, it really is an incredible tool.

Great IGE - No Multiplayer = 1 frustrated mapper

I'm sure the editor is better than ever. My main issue is why spend 30,40 or 50 hours making a map for someone to look at one time. Most mappers would agree (IMO) that a great/good looking map with average/below average game-play would get looked at/played once. But take a great/good looking map with really good game-play and it would be played hundreds, thousands or even more times. This is what motivates me to spend 30,40 or more hours making a map. I a big fan of "game-play" in maps and SP (IMO) takes that mostly away. I sure hope they put MP back into the editor, but until then, I'll be on the side-lines.

Before FC2 was released, Ubisoft contacted about a dozen or so people from the mapmaking community (myself included) to get our input for the FC2 map editor. One of the things that was suggested was a Single-Player IGE, where you could place AI, create triggers, etc. So it's nice to see that we finally get that feature. It's just taking away the MP IGE is extremely disappointing.

One of the other things that was suggested (I believe by zeeEVIL) was a standalone disc with a comprehensive map editor, that could be used for a variety of Ubisoft titles.

Wow, (not blaming you guys), Ubisoft took the opinion that 12 people would like to see SP IGE, and decided to sacrifice the MP IGE for it. Evel Knievel couldn't jump to that conclusion.

Actually it's you who took a massive leap to a ridiculous conclusion Reread that post and point me to the part where he even IMPLIED that Ubisoft decided to make a SP editor in FC4 only based on the feedback of 12 people who were asked how to improve FC2?

I grew up watching Evel Knievel.

Oops, yea I misread that. Thought you gave input on the FC4 editor.

First of all, that was several years ago - even before FC2. So I doubt that Ubisoft was looking back at their notes from back then. Beside, the guys we were dealing with back then aren't even involved with FC anymore, AFAIK.

What's more likely is that Ubisoft looked at FC3, saw that there weren't that many people making maps for multi-player, and decided to scrap that in favor of the SP IGE. If you look at the comments from the lead developer, he even indicates that when he talks about the "data"

Is there a reason you think that not a lot of people were making MP maps? And is there a reason they think more people will make SP maps?

Can you share your single player maps? Can other people play your single play map without you? Multiplayer has replay value. You can play MP maps hundreds of times because the enemy is always different. Other people can play your MP map without you. Single player maps have little replay value. How many times am I really going to play through the same SP mission? Why would I spend 50 hours creating a SP map I will play maybe 5 times.
