I know it's been talked about, but months and months later, I still can't seem to find anything concrete. Seems like information such as this should have found its way out by now.
Do we actually, effectively aim at each other in this game? With bullets and recoil that hit if the bullet hits, and miss if the bullet misses (i.e., shooters)....or am I going to ice someone's face in this game and then have it be left up to dice roll to tell me if they "evaded" my shot or not (i.e., WoW).
This one fact, completely on its own, makes or breaks this game for myself and I'm sure plenty of others. I know the "what we know thread" says dice roll could be a thing, which makes me want to throw up, but that hasn't been updated since March.
So what's the deal? Is this a shooting game? Or WoW disguised with guns? Don't answer if you don't understand the question.
I'm not sure how you expect not to "effectively aim at something" whether its 100% constant damage or WOW chance. The medium with which you select the target is aiming.
In WoW you select a target explicitly by clicking it. That's the only difference
Whether you hit or not is not strictly dependant on that. Get any shooter with gun with 70 degree spread - won't hit stuff if you point right at them either.
Recoil happens when you shoot, regardless whether the "bullet" hits or not. Not sure what you are on about here.
I think in brief words The Division will have:
- Hit-scan and LOS
- Spread mechanics
- Dice roll on damage amount done (random between a MIN < damage < MAX) and "critical hit" chance comparable to Ghost Recon: Phantoms.
I think people are taking the whole dice-roll out of context. There is only so much that you can leave to dice roll.
All in all I don't think it matters. Even if they strip it down to having to have an area of the enemy be in your crosshair to select who you do damage to, it is still an extremely simplified hit-scan model, which is what a lot of people are familiar with and is the basis for a lot of shooter games, even if MASSIVE doesn't call it that.
Punji, as far as I can tell this is how it goes down.
- You see a bad guy.
- You aim at the bad guy.
- You shoot the bad guy.
- Depending on where your bullet physically hits the bad guy, the bullet does X damage.
- The bad guy realizes you are there, because you just shot him/her in the kneecap.
- They shoot back at you.
- Depending on where they physically hit you, they do X damage.
There will be modifiers to this process. Accuracy of weapon. Distance to target. Recoil. These will affect how effective your bullets are just like they do in most third person shooters.
If I'm understanding you correctly, it won't be "WoW style".
The one thing I thought was ridiculous in the E3 demo was when the "hero" fires at least 7 rounds into a guys head and nothing really happens, mind the guys has NO head armor
the same thing can be seen in the other trailer, I think its called Manhattan trailer. where they start in the subway. its right at the point wher you throw a rotor to blind a guy..
It just seems like the hitpoints are not quite responsive and giving its a demo its to be expected, but I do hope that you can onehit kill the enemy but also work vice versa keeping the "reality" aspect of the game
... then what's the point of leveling your skills and getting new weapons if you are able to 1 shot everyone because it's "realistic". use your brains.Originally Posted by MikeTheDane327 Go to original post
What we know is that Megan Yells "HEADSHOT" with delight in the first gameplay trailer.Originally Posted by NotPunjistick Go to original post
We also see bullet holes in some kinda signboard on the roof of the police house.
That said, I personly think they are going with Dice..
So I guess you don´t know games like FarCry where you also have skills and... wait for it.. can do Headshots.Originally Posted by Cyroxi Go to original post
Maybe you should use your brain. And I didn´t say that you should onehitkill all enemies.. But I would like to think that if you are, say level 8 and you run into a level 2 you should be able to kill them with relative ease. it´s not like that Elite we see in the manhattan vid that has ridiculous body.armor, ofc you one could oneshot him then I agree with you completely. it would be too easy and not very "satisfying" with a "simple" 1 shot kill![]()
I guess it's a combination of the two sorta. Aim and if your bullets actually "hit" the target or not are controlled by shooter style mechanics. Aim, recoil, bullet spread, etc... The AMOUNT of damage done will be a dice roll, and I'm assuming different body parts will have different damage multipliers to reward accurate fire.
