I am loving the parkour, and also enjoy the combat and story. The customization aspect is a welcome addition, although the microtransactions, not so much.
I feel that this game has brought us back to the roots of Assassin's Creed and improved upon it. I have experienced a couple of glitches and framerate issues, but so far it's not enough for me to not recommend this game.
I really like the graphical quality of the game. I know there are graphical glitches, like some strange light rays near my characters under certain conditions and shimmering on metal objects, but those are small flaws compared to how good the game looks in general. Just for the record, I'm using an MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G, so I can run this game smoothly without any stuttering or low framerate issues. I probably don't get a solid 60 fps (I don't run an FPS counter), but AC is a more cinematic game so that's not a priority for me. I play AC for graphics, not for framerate.
The parkour system is improved with the parkour-down option which makes it easier to move around compared to the earlier games.
I like the environment. While the NPCs in the game are pretty glitchy, at least having all of them around makes Paris feel more alive. Plus the size of Paris and the attention to environmental detail is great in my eyes.
The mission structure is also better with more ways to tackle an objective. I haven't played through much of the game yet, but I like the new sandbox-type missions. I also like the greater emphasis on stealth with new stealth movement options (finally, a crouch button!) and the increased difficulty of combat. Combat in this game is much more like AC2 compared to the combo-heavy combat of AC3 and AC4.
I welcome the return of a base to renovate and earn income from. It was one of my favorite parts of AC2 and AC: Brotherhood; saving up for that valuable renovation.
The pros are the graphics / DX11 tesselation on the buildings - climbing up and down is great. The bad is the combat system for me. They have absolutely ruined combat in this game as far as I'm concerned. And it's not like I was the type of player who just constantly sought out big battles with lots of guys - I just want to be able to have a path to victory if I do things correctly in combat, but the way they have it setup, there are many instances where there is absolutely nothing you can do to avoid getting shot. They eliminated human shields from the game which completely ruins that dynamic of the close combat system. I really miss AC4's system. It was by far the best.
The exploration. All the places to visit with of course the cool visuals. I admit I'm not very far along, only in the first city area. But I promise to search the net diligently for savegames to allow me access to most all of the sections of Paris. Just teasing, I hope I don't have find savegames. I'll get going on the missions and sequences.
Ive played about 8 hours so far on PC and I have found alot to like. The new movement animations are amazing (though sadly combat hasnt really gotten better, not that I hate it just its not been given the same treatment as climbing).
I actually really like Arno so far, reminds me alot of Etzio in AC2. The story is pretty predictable so far but the relationship with Elise seems really interesting.
The city is the real star as always with AC so much effort is put in to this and the crowds are a real wonder so many NPC's on screen at once.
Ive not had the same technical difficulties that others have it seems but still the game does chug especially and strangely during cut scenes. One crash and 3 short freezes so far not bad enough to ruin it but its disappointing they felt they could release the game with work clearly needing done. Im all for continued annual releases not enough historical games for my liking so keep em coming! Maybe, just maybe two creed games on the same day is abit much for Ubi to handle.
We're actually attempting to find a workaround/fix for that right now. It seems the problem comes from corrupted files that came with installation. Some are saying that deleting certain files, then verifying them through UPlay is causing it to download non-broken ones, which fixes the issue.
