'Sup guys.
So, here we are, in the run up to FC4's long awaited release. And yet I find I'm feeling more hyped for the GTAV new gen redux (released the same day) than I am for FC. How is that possible? I'm not a massive GTA fan, yeah I enjoyed it, I thought the SP was brilliant, and the MP had some great some terrible features.
Neither franchise has me really excited, maybe I'm just gettin' jaded, the new first person mode in GTA does seem to make it almost a new game tho, teh gfx update looks much more impressive than the update from say AC4 from PS3 > PS4, FC4 version on new gen doesn't seem to be groundbreaking from what I've seen. TBH if I could only get one of the two games, I'd probably go for GTA, not something I expected to be thinking at all!
Like many in the MP/Mapping community, my hopes were all around the IGE, and the hopes that Ubi would acknowledge and fix the mistakes made in FC3, and do something to really highlight the one defining feature that (for me) seperates the franchise from all the other FPS games out there.
Yet Ubi's marketing strategy has been to drip feed us virtually no info, to ignore the ups n downs of the history of the franchise, and to stifle any possible excitement that us mappers have.
Ubisoft are a massive company, god alone knows what the total budget is for games like FC4, it is inconceivable to think that the lack of information is anything but a deliberate decision, it's not like someone in an office is saying 'Hey Fred, did you remember to get a marketing campaign done for Farcry 4?' 'Oh was it me doing that? I thought it was you? 'ah never mind, it'll be fine'.
Maybe there is some marketing genius at work here, and when I get my hands on the game I'll be completely blown away by it, but right now? I'm gearing myself up for disappointment, I suspect I'm not alone, and so close to release, I'd call that a marketing fail.
thoughts?
I would say the marketing worked on me. I am hyped. I would still preorder it without the marketing, to tell the truth. I never really got into the IGE though I hope its good so I can try some of you'alls maps.
on a side note...
In the IGN.au pubcast far cry special with Alex Hutchinson, Alex said "I'd rather have a group of super hardcore fans that get it and are really into it and it's ok that other people don't like it than try to make the wonderbread of videogames." when talking about far cry 2 and 3. I thought you guys might like that. #irony

Yeah it's definitely a cool thing to say, but it seems to be more of a personal ethos than a company one. I wonder if alex and some others feel as equally frustrated as the super hardcore fans that 'get it'? The sites like Battlemaps.net or FCMaps etc, guys who've been commited to this game above all others for years, some of them since the franchise inception. The regulars on here, some of whom have put massive amounts of work into promoting this game in gaming videos or filled the forum with information.Originally Posted by BELLROY Go to original post

Professional, passionate, in it for the game noit just the cash, yet the complete lack of engagement with their 'super hadcore' community and their almost blindness to the expressed wishes of said community strike a complete discord with that impression.
Hey
Yeah, I've seen some of the convo's around this, you've pretty much summed up everything with 'It's not confirmed yet'. Let's look at the possible scenarios:
We CAN make MP maps: Why wouldn't they tell us this? It's not like it will break some big secret, some unexpected new feature that would have been a huge suprise to fans and critics alike. They KNOW concerns have been expressed about it, there is no feasible reason to withold that information, it gives the appearence of complete contempt for their customers.
We CAN'T make MP maps: First - why? To maximise DLC? To sell a bucket load of MP maps? If that is the reason, it's more laughable than the atrocious DLC for FC2. FC3 lost a huge amount of credibility to the company, of faith from the multiplayer crowd, of love from the fans. this would not be the best way to regain any of that ground, and would show even more contempt than above.
Is it because 'Well no-one made MP maps for FC3, so we thought 'why bother' this time around'. I suspect nobody made maps for FC3 because of the broken MP game and the atrocious step back from FC2 hosting., not because nobody WANTED to make MP maps.
Does it intefere with their 'vision' in the same way that vehicles intefered with their vision for FC3 multiplayer? Possibly, maybe they think the failure of FC3 MP was the fact that all of us mappers wrecked the game, making bad maps. We can't be trusted not to spoil their 'vision' after all.
Ugh, the more I think about Ubi's approach the more depressed I get lol
I could care less about it, and that goes for the majority of players I've heard from recently.
Nov. 18th will bring a world of hurt to many MP/mapper fans...that's what I'm getting out of all this.
For the sake of all the good people that followed this franchise for years, you think Ubisoft could have been a little more transparent!
Anyway, everyone has said what they've had to say for years, and you can see where it's gotten us.
I think the MP as we've known it, is done!
Well at least when next Tuesday hits, all will be revealed and we can wash our hands of the FC series for good.

I will still buy FC4 (and GTA V) for the SP and Coop, but I swear if they removed the possibility to make MP maps, playing through the game will feel very.. bitter.
And I'm not even sure I would bother playing MP at all (Not because I don't WANT, but because the way it would be built would not be worth it)
Then next game they will do something stupid again like removing MP or map editor completely because "nobody was really interested in FC4 MP" - Well of course if it was SH*T ! -_-
Depressing indeed.
Most of us on the forums are interested in the map editor and MP, and they have definitely not done the greatest job at making the game appealing to us. The singleplayer guys are probably happy, and even though I really liked the SP in FC3, the elephants aren't a selling point to me.
I think they should have made an incredibly smooth and responsive MP that runs custom maps, and they should have advertised this back in September or October, and they would probably have a lot more people hyped for the release.
Personally I'm more curious and anxious about it than excited. MP custom maps has always been my favorite part so until this is confirmed or denied I'll be very curious to see what they have done and why =P
And that's exactly what they love to see.Originally Posted by FR_Player-One Go to original post
