Custom Cameras
Hi guys , this is just a query which i have and it might help me understand how to use them better if i need to.
I have found that the majority of people dont like custom cameras and were i can see that they can be very distracting to a driveline if used correctly then they can add a whole different dimension to the track which obviously enhances the enjoyment of the game. This is proberbly why i have tended to use them alot within my tracks to try to achieve that different dimension other that what the original in game camera would do although noted that its the best one to use mos tof the time.
If lets say 90% of players dont like the use of these even when done correctly ( because of different prefference ) i wondered why they have been put in the new editor if people dont like them so much.
Is there a percific rule when using these because i do like to have these in some tracks in a different style or some different art feature which uses these to make the track become different. there is lots of ways to do this but i think the camera is the best one if used correctly. Is there is certain way that this should be done , maybe some set rules to follow.
i know its not a great one to actually answer as i would imagine its alot down to prefference but it does seem that they are not liked at all but they are in the editor so i would have thought if they are in their then surely they must be of some good use.
cheers

if you have used a custom camera good you shouldnt notice the effect whatsoever . thats how u know its good . to many people use them to show stuff they made in the background or make a boring bit of a track seem more action packed . of even movie like . . and you have to make a decision when using them if its going to work / upset the track flow / and most important alter the bike handling /controll . . honest avoid them .and use if thats the only way you can get the track/obsticle done and not just for no reason . x i dont think ive ever used one myself .

yeah thats what i have used them for in alot of ways , to make it movie like in sections of my track also have used them after creating a vast amount of track and realising that i either move everything or cheat and stick a camera somewhere to combat this. I agree this is proberbly the more lazy of option.
I do intend to stay clear of them if i can but did want to maybe use them the odd time to create a what i call arty farty track that fits the art farty drivline lol.
cheers for the help dude i think i will just try and make sure i dont have to use them if possible. I think sometimes i spend too much time on the decor and animation that i then rush the driveline not always but i know i have done this a few times which leave me looking for answers for good cemera angles.

honest you can do the best deco . lighting . effects u want but if your drivrline aint smooth people will hate it . its priority . most people will take a good line and crap deco over .good deco and crap line all day long . when vegas was steaming your tracks they looked better than i expected . but why not try this . drop all the animations and effects on the driveline and just concentrate on doing a solid non moving driveline . look at other tracks u enjoy riding and take note why . look at the smooth ride . how the obstacles combine and work . i would honestly do this for your next track.keep it simple .

like kidmpc says, driving line is by far the most important part of a track. Using custom camera's shouldn't really be noticable in tracks, wich isn't that easy to do. The main reason why people tell new builders not to use them is because there are other priority's in a track. It's more important to be comfortable with making a good drivingline first than trying to implement custom camera's in a track to try to make it better, wich it usually doesn't even do. So basically, it's better to keep it simple when you just started building.
Custom camera's are in the editor because it can serve alot of purposes, like for ending scenes, secrets, skillgames.
If you really want to play with them in regular tracks, I suggest doing it on an easy/beginner tracks with for example long ramps, where it's easier to not have alot of impact on the driver.
You should try making a driving line first with some basic objects you picked that can serve the theme before anything else. If you have a basic driving line, you expand on that with decoration, finetune it to match some objects you want to replace that fit your theme, make custom objects to fit the driving line you made, add ideas for animations in the background where you think they might be interesting. This will give you alot more freedom than trying to cramp in a driving line for a background/animation/theme you made.

Both these guys are right, I've been building since evo and back then i had no idea how to manipulate OPE's. I've only just got my head round some logic stuff but I always concentrate on my driveline first... I would suggest building each section of driveline then decorate, I don't know how others do it but for me this keeps it fresh and I don't get bored doing the same thing. But make sure your line is tested and solid for all bikes you are using before going to far on decoation, then you can change animations and decore to not affect your track too much.
I'm not an amazing builder but through this forum I've progressed so much... I shudder to think of some of my early creations lol.
Keep at it!

Trying to run before i can walk i think it amounts too some bad choices on my tracks i think The mian problems i have with my tracks are mainly to do with things clipping in the camera and the use of customs cameras so like the last couple of tracks i have tried to stay clear of them. Good idea about using them only in easy or medium tracks because i can see where there would be more long stretches and transistions to use these other than on a hard track. Going to stay clear of them till i get my DL perfected. , then hopefully will have more skill to understand how to use them better. Also good point about why they are in the editor , i never thought of the use for skill games and so forth.

I do tend to do a section of the driveline first then start to fill the decor in but do tend to then stretch it and before i know it its over run the driveline. Im one of these guys that likes to make the actual drivline fit to the actual theme. I dont like it much when you have something that i feel wouldnt be there in that situtation if it was real. Like the dirveling is actually part of whole picture and doesn't stand out completely different than the decor althouh still keeping in mind that the rider has got to know where he is riding , i over do this sometimes also
. One thing like those electric wires that some choose to use for the dirvling is something i just dont think works . you dont see people driving bikes on electrical wires lol just not realistic haha. I love doing animations also and maybe far to much at times but again alot of only been learning curves to learn the tools within the editor.
Thank you both for the advice and i will implement all this within my future tracks while at the same time try to find my own style. Its really appreciated and a shame that you cant actually play some i have done already and future ones. Would be nice for you too to see your advice and help advancing another gamers ability.
Again much appreciated

Im on ps4
I have a user created thread in here with some of mine in , i think my driving lines get better the more i make , with the advice off others that i have tried to implement they seem to be getting better. Think my first ever track which goes back to about 6 months back or less was about 5 minute long lol.
Love making them , am working on one i always try to think of something that hasnt be done before to my knowledge but i always find out that someones done it already it hard to do with thegame going way way back. I recently made a u tube so i can post them n here my aim was to get more coverage and downloads also made people would give feed back whish some have

I often build deco first but now I see why I often get stuck cause of that as I limit myself to X area/length/height because of that.
As for custom cameras, using them sparely without the changes being too fast or too big of an angle (avoid Cut as much as possible if it involves much required rider movement).
On a high speed/easier track they are easier to use as there's often more time to correct a long jump on a wavy driveline.
On a more technical track they gotta be used far more carefully and at much smaller distances, most often to enhance sight of tight spaces, and not more then that.
I often use some "side" view interpolated sections in tracks like on a steep climb or jumping multiple gaps.
Or use custom cameras to transition from certain narrow areas where the standard cam would go through objects like an underpass/doorway, but even then there's alternatives for that like making objects invisible for a brief moment.
My main use of custom cams is crash cameras/cinematics as they can use any sort of drastic change without affecting gameplay, so using Cut or another camera filter/color/brightness does not matter.
