the answer is probably which ever you happen to need at the moment but really which is it?
personally i hate grinding for those parts especially parts that dont seem to accrue naturally like nuts and bolts do.
needing 200k+ coins for upgrades is annoying but at least you the slot machine and challenges to help out but for parts you only choice is to play certain tracks over and over.

For a while it was the parts - it was so annoying to be at the mercy of the loot wheel.
Now, however, I have at least one lvl 5 part of each type just sitting, waiting for me to get enough coins for the next upgrade.

I had forgotten just how cash-starved this game can get, but now that my alt ID is moving up the rankings, ANBA isn't really a money-maker any more and money is limiting factor by far...like Whitechapple I have lots of parts but need money....

I haven't had to grind for coins so far (as I haven't upgraded my bikes that much) so I've got enough money for the time being. However, once I have the higher level parts needed to upgrade then I'll be pretty much bankrupt. I'm sure I'll then find out what it's like to grind for coins. Also, ANBA isn't an option for me as I've always tried to set good times.
My main issue is that the upgrades use more high level nuts and bolts than any other part (or so it seems to me) and so I've never got enough of them. The levels such as Troll Lair and Sunshine District, with most of the loot wheel taken up by those respective parts, never seem to give me the parts I need. I would estimate 90% of spins result in me winning the 1 segment that is not a nut or a bolt.

any stockpile of lvl 5 parts goes so fast through. Some parts never seem to accrue naturally too. Ive never had lvl5 gears just laying around.

god i forgot how much harder it was to get coins with a low level slot machine. The 90 minute timer is brutal too. With my high 20s slot machine account money isnt that big an issue. I can usually get around 100k out of the slot machine alone in a single day but with a low teens slot machine you are lucky to get 10k. brutal. for that account coins are definitely worse.

It sucks now because of all the restrictions. Thank god for the "good old days."
Problem is I can only do 6 races every 2 hours of Tier 3 tracks. Maybe you snag 1 level 3 part out of 6 spins. Talking about a whole day of racing to get 1 level 4 part, if you are lucky!!!
My slot machine is high enough to payout a decent amount of coins everyday, so that's not too bad.

For me, it is the coins.
My inventory is full of parts that are waiting to be used but I'm out of coins and the updates are really expensive. Particularly the Berserker and the Phantom.
My lotz is at level 17 and it is really difficult to earn coins. How do you guys collect 100K per day? O_o
