Alex Hutchinson: "Map Editor can share maps Cross-Platform"

Fallen Champ posted this vid in another forum section, but I thought it worthy to post here as well. At 7:45 in the video, Alex states that you "Can share maps cross-platform"

    http://youtu.be/zGaMeHT2LN8

That is HUGE news, if that's exactly what he meant. I hit him up on Twitter to confirm.

Until this is confirmed I am not getting my hopes up, although the thoughts of downloading some of the maps from the big hitters on XB1 Platform & playing on PS4 would be superb, I just cant see how a PC map could work on Xbox360 / PS3 as PC usually has no limits in what they can ram into a grid square, and those old consoles were crippled with double figures of A.I. placed in a map.

It needs to be clear on how it would work if this is true at all, I just think he means that map sharing is on all platforms but not necessarily cross platform - Hope I am wrong.

I could see all maps working on PC and PS3 / XB360 maps working on PS4 / XB1 but for next gen and PC to work on older consoles they would surely have to make a map that is downgraded in that it has a tighter budget as to what can be placed in the grid squares - Until someone states this works cross platform I would take it with a pinch of salt, but like I said it will be the biggest thing ever for map makers if it's true.

    I would say probably :
    - PC
    - PS4 / XboxOne
    - PS3 / Xbox360

If they mix PC and XboxOne/PS4 together, this would limit the PC Editor capabilities.
If they mix PC / NewGen with PS3 and Xbox 360, this would limit PC / NewGen Editor capabilities.
And that would be very stupid...

Wait, what? I never knew time, whether they are minutes or seconds, go beyond 59 without resetting back to 0!

Silliness aside, on the 7:45 mark, I find it rather interesting how briefly he mentioned it. I'd say that's great news!

I don't know if this will be a feature in the game or not, but I have suggested to the devs that it would be cool if people could see a bar in the editor that shows how much memory you've occupied on your map with a limit for how much each platform can handle. This would let people decide how much detail they would want to prioritize knowing how much each platform can handle, so they can decide just how broadly available their map should be compared to how detailed it is. Example:

When your map is finished and saved, you can upload it to a Uplay server. This would be where all platforms retrieve it's maps, so you can browse maps available for all platforms, and when you select a specific map, you can see what platform the map was made on, but you can download it regardless of whether you play on the same platform or not, as long as your platform can handle the amount of memory that has been occupied on the map.

This is just an idea I've built quickly, so if you guys see any hole in it, please let me know =P

Lillestoel we had that in the Far Cry instincts series of games, they called it the Performance Meter, when in the red that area of the map was often a little laggy - It worked very well, would be nice to see it return.

Best way was FC2 having an allowance and seeing what you had used and what you have left plus the cost per item - Hope thats back.

I honestly have no idea XD
If Alex says it will be there, then I guess it might =)
But to me the interview sounded kinda quick so maybe he just said what he said by mistake and really meant something else and didn't think too much about it... Again, I have no idea if it will be in the game or not =)

I'm talking about literally changing the map uploading to Uplay and using it for people to port maps themselves from old consoles to the new ones, so that people with PS3's can play FC4, and then when they upgrade to the new consoles the maps are still there
