Even Morrowind on original Xbox has better water and Morrowind was considered ugly even back when it released. Seriously, I thought we'd seen the last of flat water last gen. There's really no excuse for not having animated polygonal ripples even on flat water. I'm also pretty sick of the "2 textures going in opposite directions" effect but even THAT would look better than this. PLEASE tell me this water is just a WiP.

I definitely understand that Misty. But I also understand that graphically speaking changes tend to be either minor or for the worse. When Skyrim was announced tons of people made fun of the toothpaste like waterfalls. Bethesda said exactly what you said. When the game launched we had toothpaste waterfalls that not even the modding community could fix. I could see you guys using a better water shader than in those videos fairly easily but even a fancy shader can only do so much. It's FAR from a big deal for me but I am disappointed to see such plain water especially considering FCIP on the 360 actually had pretty nice water.
You are right Misty, let's wait the retail version... It could look even worse than that

It's 2014 and proper real-time water reflections aren't common.Originally Posted by xRaDRoacHx Go to original post
Even back in the early 2000s they were.
What's gone wrong here? No, it's not the hardware. It's the people.
The more power they have at their disposal, the worse they get. Same thing with politics and programming.
Oh yes, FC2 had proper water reflections and so did FC1 on PC and heck: even the original XBOX/XBOX360 FCs had better water.
I think they learned after how people reacted to Watch Dogs. Just the fact that they are willing to show us something that makes some people question the graphics is a sign of honesty to me. The water won't look worse. Far Cry 1 from ten years ago had crystal clear water, so don't worry mate =DOriginally Posted by xRaDRoacHx Go to original post
Far Cry Instincts Predator IMO had the best water yet in a Far Cry game, the jetski rocked with the waves, only problem was that it was very clear and even when diving deep a sniper at distance had a good job at getting close or hitting you.
This shows the original PC version of Far Cry's water also.
Water in FC2 was horrible in most places, diving down you got disorientated very quickly as it was that dark
FC3 Water looked great on PC - I still think the waves were better on FCIP though.
