Far Cry 4 Was Initially Conceived as a Direct Sequel Starring Jason and Vaas

Far Cry 4 was almost a direct sequel to Far Cry 3, starring Jason Brody and demented bad dude Vaas Montenegro. That’s according to executive producer Dan Hay who has said that the idea was bounced around at Ubisoft. For four days.
"We definitely had the option of making a 3.5, of making a choice to just stay in the same location with the same characters," said Hay. "We talked about the idea of taking Jason's story and growing it, maybe figuring out a way to bring Vaas back."
However, ”Very quickly we realised that it wasn't going to be a thing that we wanted to do. So we stopped that conversation and said, that's the end of the 3.5 conversation – which lasted probably about four days.”
Instead, the direction that Far Cry 4 eventually took came from just a single, brilliant, idea. "I want to be able to ride an elephant," said Hay of that idea. "I want to be able to ride an elephant, and I want to be able to smash it through a fortress.”
This is how games are made. Grown men sitting in rooms saying stuff like, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to ride a battle elephant?' Video games are the best.
