Strategy Informer: Apart from the co-op, will there be any other type of multiplayer?
Vincent Ouellette: Yes, there will be. Nothing's been announced in detail yet, but I can say that it's asymmetrical so it's very interesting. I mean like Spies Vs Mercs (from Splinter Cell), two teams with different abilities who you need to play differently. It's actually handled by the guys at Red Storm, they know their multiplayer. I'm really excited about it. We'll be announcing more soon.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt Red Storm the same team from Far Cry 3s MP? I like the asymetrical team idea, but I'm worried that also limits our options as players. It might mean we must stick to the way the developers want to play instead of just having fun.
As long as there is straight up DM and a lobby system/working editor, I'm on board. I wish they'd announce the date of the MP reveal instead of "soon," or "at a later time." My dream would include the team showing off the lobby system then jumping into a selected match, and then finally the gameplay. But it will probably be a 2-3 minute gameplay showcase where we are left in the dark.
We know it's Military Vs Tribal, hopefully not with that fugly Shangri-La bow. Golden Path Vs Kalingal, or something.. With I quote 'the forces of nature' does this mean magical powers anyone? Sounds immediately like Shadowrun to me.. which was outstanding in its class based asymmetry.
Two key problems with asymmetrical multiplayer..
1. Inevitable favouritism
2. Messed up matchmaking as people lobby quit when they're auto assigned who they don't want to be.
Has Red Storm in their wisdom seen passed these? I'm both thrilled they're doing something original to make far cry MP distinctive, and fearful that this hasn't got the legs to support a thriving mapping community. The core has to be amazing to make people want to map around it. Here's hoping..
If the core game modes like Team DeathMatch, DeathMatch and some kind of Capture The Flag are not in the MP I'm not getting the game... If map makers cannot make a map and host a list of their own maps in a public lobby where everyone online can see their name (as in FC2) - I'm not buying the game.Originally Posted by Insistor Go to original post
I don't like how Strategy Informer immediately wrote in parenthesis "(F*** Instincts)", when features brought back into Far Cry 4 such as shooting while driving came from Far Cry Instincts itself. I believe that the asymmetrical multiplayer points out certain game modes, perhaps one on defense and the other on offense, than an asymmetrical team deathmatch.
I can get behind an asymmetrical multiplayer, ESPECIALLY with the Map Editor involved. It's risky though, because of what Insistor said. Making custom maps with an asymmetrical mode in mind sounds awesomely challenging.
But as long as they have traditional multiplayer as well, I dont see a problem with this.
If this is anything like Predator mode and is done properly then it will be fun and popular but remember they did say the game also comes with the standard multiplayer modes, I am hoping for Solo deathmatch / TDM / CTF and maybe some form of domination / territories type modes - king of the hill or last man standing would also be excellent.
I just read that interview there are a few good answers, the outposts been attacked is good as you get to defend them rather than them just been reset - also some smaller buildings / shacks can be damaged / possibly destroyed so with some items destruction looks to be back.
There's the rub..Originally Posted by legacyzero Go to original post
Two years (IF they had ALL of it) is no time to develop a full multiplayer suite, especially when it has to tie up with a mapping tool. I don't know if we'll see traditional as well, or much flesh on the bones.
Way to ensure hope? Come out with MUCH MORE than a MP trailer mid-october Ubi. That's your alarm bell, as with FC3 guys. If it's just trailer, reserve judgement..
