New comer to Far Cry. What do i need to know?

I have only just got into Far Cry, due to time and money issues. I'm going to go headfirst into Far Cry 4. I want to really get involved in the community and was wondering, what would you tell someone who has never really played a Far Cry game before?

Also, I have questions about Far Cry 4:
Does it have a 'proper' multiplayer? As in, team deathmatch, capture the flag, ect?
Are past game's multiplayer any good?

    Other Questions:
How does the map editor work? Is it easy to use? Easy to share?
Are there any plot points from previous games i should know, so it makes sense?

Sorry i have so many questions, but Far Cry 4 looks fantastic and i don't want to miss this one, like i did with the others.

We d'ont know how the farcry4 multiplayer is going to be so we c'ant answer that.

It depends on your gamestyle. Some people prefer Call of duty gamestyle others like tactical mpshooters like battlefield, killzone, etc...
Also the gamestyle of custom maps depends on the map itself.

Farcry games provides the best editors u have on console, Maps are very easy to make and very easy to share in Farcry 2, Farcry 3 failed in map sharing.

Not that i know about , i play farcry for it's mp and map editor.

I hope farcry 4 will have a singleplayer like farcry 3 and a multiplayer(this includes map editor and map-sharing) like farcry 2
In that case it will compete against the battlefield and call of duty series.

My opinion - I loved farcry 2 but i hated farcry 3. The mp in farcry 3 whas a disaster.

Each Far Cry so far has had a fantastic story in my opinion, but you don't need to know any plots from previous Far Cry games as the stories are stand alone with different characters in each game.

The map editor allows you to create your own maps which can then be played in mutliplayer, and the "normal" modes such as Team Deathmatch have been there throughout. In FC2 there was Capture the Diamond (more or less the same as CTF). Also in FC2 if you created your own maps you could then host them online and other players could join and play. This kind of didn't work in FC3 since after uploading your created map you could not host it - it went onto the heap of other maps and if players voted for it, there was a chance for it to stay on a popular Tier such as SIlver Tier, where alot of guys played MP, but if you joined Silver Tier you could play 20 matches before your own map appeared which kinda sucked.

Since theres not alot of info regarding the FC4 multiplayer so far I would hazard a guess that there will be TDM and something like Domination. Experimental modes in the past have not really worked so I'm hoping to see some fundamental core multiplayer modes - I don't think new game modes are particularly needed for a game this big, the map editor kind of brings the freshness to the MP and the game never becomes "old" because of all the new multiplayer maps made by the players - again, I can't stress enough that its the way that the map creations and the playing of them are integrated that really makes or breaks this game's MP.

Thanks guys, really interesting. Sounds like a lot is resting on the multiplayer. Looking forward to it!

The multiplayer community is very friendly. Like the previous posters have said, we don't know how the multiplayer will be set up, since FC3 was abandoned by the developers.

The Singleplayer was worse in FC3, than FC2, but I'm in the minority on that one. The SP is pretty unique compared to the other shooters. Big open world, lots of variations to the gameplay.
