10 Editor Questions for FC4 and the Communities Fears

I wrote this article over at Battlemap.net (Pasted below_

    Lets talk about Far Cry

    Please address our fears

Here we have 10 Questions all Map Editor related for Far Cry 4 & we would really appreciate if any or all could be answered sometime soon, Pax Prime is on soon so that could be an amazing place to get the info out to us, also the biggest community fears we have with FC4 are listed so it would be superb if we could get a little nod in the right direction saying that you are aware of our concerns.

Ok here they are 10 editor questions from the Far Cry 4 Community - we could easily list many many more but that would take the fun away for some so hopefully these 10 will be enough for us until we get more information or until we play around and get our own answers after launch.

    (1) The new additions in Far Cry 3 Water Layers & Terrain Hole (Are these in the FC4 Editor & if so are they any changes) The overall feeling on Water Layers in FC3 were that they were an amazing option to have but the size of them made it often difficult at times and if they were smaller it would be perfect.

    (2) Out of bounds - How do we control this when making maps - what options do we have, any invisible walls or as before playable zone markers where if you go outside the zone you get 10 seconds to get back in or you die also for the out of bounds / map perimeter it is important that this is visible in the map editor, so that you can actually see the battle timer and try things out in edit mode to see that they work before publishing the map.

And when touching the outer edge of the map limit is this instant death.

    (3) Do we get weapon placement, gut turret placement & ammo crate placement in user made maps (Any of these) ?

    (4) There is mention of a Single player Mission Creator which lets us place A.I., does this have a Start and End point for completing the mission / level and can these maps / creations be uploaded and shared via the Ubisoft servers – with reference to A.I. can they be set to remain static or patrol ?
This appears to be a really cool feature but there is very little to no info out there so it would be great if we could spread the word a little.

    (5) Can you talk about any new features which you have implemented into the Far Cry 4 editor that we didn’t have in previous editors ?

    (6) Can we place ziplines in our user made maps & if so can the ziplines be stretched and raised to the required height.

    (7) For those that like to build natural looking maps we wondered if there are emitters which might let off smoke, or similar to FC3 have water droplets / splashes but taking it further with FC4 maybe have wind / snow / fog and another natural change which Razorfinnish refers to as "customizable parameters" like sun color, sky color and ambient color.
Anything like the above for us to use in our maps on FC4 ?

    (8) Does the snap tool return from Far Cry 2 ? and do we get to rotate items by degree this time on consoles for more precise mapping ? (This was previously only available on FC3)

This option was previously only on the PC Platform for Far Cry 3 (Rotate by degrees)

    (9) Far Cry 2 had a system where we placed cameras around the map - these cameras allowed us to scroll through while waiting to respawn with each camera pointing in key areas around the map, also when hosting as dedicated server we could move around as a virtual camera - With Far Cry 3 we got a fly over cam before the match started, On consoles this could make the maps look a little tatty with items appearing & disappearing in and out of view and we could not control the height and direction of the fly over camera which would have helped so much. Also in FC3 we used the movie icon in our user made maps for End Of Match Movies. What systems are used in Far Cry 4 ?

    (10) Far Cry 3 had hardly any items which had properties or which were degradable, do we get any items in FC4 which degrade, can be destroyed or which float and can be pushed / naturally fall or move when hit by rockets etc ?

With Far Cry 3 the Community felt like it got a raw deal with the multiplayer so we put down our main 4 fears with Far Cry 4 - if these are been addressed then we should have an amazing multiplayer for a lot of years to come, any feedback or info would really ease the tension on these issues.

Hosting Options and the Lobby System

The biggest killer for Far Cry 3 was the fact that we got no lobby system as we had in the previous games, the trend is to queue up a list of maps and as players join the room they pick their sides and the host can select how long they want the match to run, select the mode from the lobby so they can switch modes whenever they want.
Anyone looking through online matches can see who is hosting, what map is been played at that moment and on what mode and also can see how many people are in the room.

If we get a system like what Far Cry 3 gave us then multiplayer for the map making community is dead on launch day as it was with FC3 – This is the biggest fear the community has – we would love to get back those hosting options where we can control the length of time a match lasts, control the mode and number of players, allow players to swap sides and hopefully turn off things such as the mini map and other things.

Any snippet of info you can drip feed to this anxious community about the lobby system could seriously calm things down – the 4 things listed here are huge concerns to us.

    Grid Limit
With Far Cry 3 shortly after launch we got a forced update that crippled the map making community and killed the game dead the second that patch landed – We had a limit on how many items we could place in a single grid square – it was acceptable but after the patch we lost approx 90% of the allowance we previously had. So it is nice to hear now that some items have no cost on performance and that grids are tighter but there is still fear of us getting capped dramatically with a patch after launch.
Also with the Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions I would say that those on the newer consoles are in hope that their allowance in what they can use in a grid will be greater than the older versions PS3 / 360 as they might not have the guts to throw around those calculations in a confined space so will Next Gen machines get any benefits with the editor.

    Spawns
To put it simple the white shared spawns we had to use in Far Cry 3 did cause a lot of misery for us map makers because we could not dictate where any players would spawn.

The usual trend of creating a team bases at opposite sides of the map with players battling from one end to the other was instantly killed because the forced white shared spawn system allowed any player to take any spawn which could place them anywhere on the map – It was horrible and the fear is that if Far Cry 4 adopts this same method then instantly you will lose some players and map makers very quickly from the multiplayer experience because they can’t enjoy and play the game on their own maps the way they want to and could do with all the previous Far Cry games with editors before FC3.

Differences in Edit Mode compared to Multiplayer
The video below says it all really

Thanks to Razor for the Video

My guess is that something similar was happening on the PC Side between what we see in edit mode and what we see in the multiplayer match as a member from the Ubisoft Forums called Razorfinnish posted this question.

Oh yes, the most important question of all...

Have the IBL probes finally been fixed, so we're not going to suffer from eye-destroying moments like this, the X360 and PS3 didn't suffer as much because the probe cubemap resolution was so small compared to the PC version and I believe they actually made it work properly on them... Also happened in all custom maps with underground areas, but in the custom maps, the reflections were blue (On the FC3 PC editor, the probes worked properly on surface while in editing mode... But the moment you jumped in-game, every reflection became... Well... Blue.)

Should just allow us to hand-place them, really (Which could easily be done in a mod, using a custom entity though)

So there you have the communities biggest fears with Far Cry 4 - We hope that the game is in good hands but at the same time hope that you can understand our concerns, if it is not possible to answer some of the questions or to give a response to our main fears could you please take the time just to get the message out that you are aware of the things we have mentioned I am on twitter @FallenChamp1 or you can spread the word via the Ubi Forums - Here at Battlemap or any Far Cry Fan site or even through @FarCrygame's Twitter Account or Facebook page - the info will get back to us.
We all want the same thing an amazing experience with everything Far Cry 4 related.

This is in no way designed to cause offense or as a way to bully people into giving out information earlier than they are comfortable with, as a Community of map makers we were just hopeful that we could be given some more information on key topics, If the timing is not good than that is fair enough.

We don't appear to have a FC4 Community Developer in these forums yet so if anyone could pass this down through the correct channel then that would be really appreciated by everyone, I sent out some links via twitter and one via facebook in hope that the Editor Guy might be allowed to answer some questions.

    Thanks

Great work Steve, I think this sums up all we'd like to know about the map editor in FC4! To me, if the editor stayed completely the same, I'd be more than happy already! So any update or addition would make it even better.

Concerning water layers, I think Kyle mentioned rivers a few times. It'd be terrific if we could paint rivers the way we paint roads (and actually have a current/flow to them)!

just my opinions on the post

1, this is my one hope for the game
2,im more than 100% sure they'd bring everything from FC3 editor to this one
3 that would be cool to see again
4, im 50/50 on this one, not that big of a deal to me. although looking at the first picture im glad to see they're changing the way that they do map sharing. it wasnt very good IMO in prev. games
    5 isnt really a fear
6 yes it would be nice if they remembered to put that mechanic in
7 that would be a cool necessity but i wouldnt put money on it
8 and 9, not sure about these
10 were there ever movable objects in the editor (besides explosive barrels and cars)
    as for everything else...
listed lobby systems are ALWAYS better (i wish game devs knew that) the only reason COD works without this is because its extremely fast paced
my only hope with smaller grids is that the adjustable water layers will be smaller as well (as mentioned previously)

Good piece ! I would be very happy if all these points are fixed.

Its now less then 3 months to release. Bit strange there is still no news on Mp or editor. Dont you want feedback early on? So you can adjust.Seems logical to me.

With fc2 they were proud as a dog with 2 tails and couldnt wait to share it with us. In fc3 they just gave us just a little info just before release. We all know why, coz it wasnt all that what it should have been. Guess ubisoft uses 'leave the people guessing' tactic again and hoping the people buy it anyways. But my guess, more and more people will wait before buying until the players reviews are in.

The snap tool would IMO speed up the process when using fences and any other item that could be snapped when lining things up.
As for rotate objects by degrees, it can be hard doing complex work on console getting the angles right, some form of mirrir tool as well as rotate by degrees would help massively.

You could blow up the sofa and the cushions could be pushed, they would float but you could not stand on them while floating, also there was one fence piece which when hit with a powerful weapon would go flying, some built other custom structures using this fence piece so that the structure looked to be blown apart.

Properties in Far Cry 2 on items were so much better I hope we get a lot of cool stuff with FC4.

True what platform you gonna be on with FC4 ?

Also getting physical things into the FC3 multiplayer worked through custom entity types, though they, for a few reasons, made the map file size a lot bigger (instead of pointing to the entity library containing stock definitions, they had to be fully inserted with all their properties.)
