When im putting object into a track and i want them to be perfectly on the driving line is there a way to do it because when i 'lock to driving line' and then go on to test my track the object falls from mid air.
also is there a way to perfectly lock other objects together so that it is smooth.
any basic video tutorials you can show me would be appreciated thanks in advance.
hi, the lock to driving line makes the active physics object snap to the driving line, this is handy for making objects follow the line.
making objects line up can be quite difficult, however there are option to help ease this process, open up the radial menu and select editor option, inside this you will find snap settings for both angle and planes X,Y,Z, these planes represent the coordinate system for the game world.
this video from Evo still stands for fusion and shows the various settings.
the video doesn't show what happens when all X,Y,Z options are not checked, in this situation when you use the snap feature the object will snap its center to the driving line, from there you can use the snap grid to align objects to it from there.
Keep in mind not every object snaps perfect at the same grid distance, I usually experiment a lot with 0.25m 0.50m 1.0m.
And if it doesn't work even then I adjust the distance even more to get as close as possible without having "texture" overlap
Even if no perfect snap can be made, moving the 1 object even a tiny bit can fix a texture problem, just keep in mind not doing this too often when it comes to driveline, or use a custom collision/object on top to keep it straight/flat to avoid tiny bumps the wheel hits.
As long as it looks okay, and theres no obvious texture issues/oddly aligned pieces, you can even have objects partly into eachother to use only a fraction of a big object.
Snapping to driveline is a nice feature as well and I recommended it often for driveable objects.
The snap plane tool is also good for copying a certain objects angle/rotation, which helps for say putting a custom collision on a diagonal ramp section.
Press the right stick and the object will go to the DL, if you have changed the original position/rotation and want to get it back to the original position press the right stick again to get the object to the DL and then press it again to "reset" the original position. test it!! that is very useful!!
I guess you are not looking for a physical obstacle, so, you should set (off) the object physics also the "look to DL" thing...
really??..... damn, i never knew that... thats a super useful tip indeed!Originally Posted by MaTiSpOrT Go to original post
