Track/Obstacle Inspiration, where do you guys get yours?

I usually have no issues thinking up a theme or decoration but when it comes to thinking up original drivelines/obstacles I sometimes get "builder blocked" and I often quit the editor after a while.

I often go play in-game tracks and other customs to get ideas again but it sorta feels like copying ideas, or some obstacles start repeating itself just different sizes.

A lot of the time I end up with large flat areas in a track and that seems to cause the most issues as my tracks end up looking like flat-ramp-flat-ramp-flat-drop, and not very dynamic/curved/diagonal.

I dunno if it is because I tend to build on the baseworld's ground and clear/flatten it most of the time.

I go for things that have either not been done yet, or done to death. In the latter I mix it up a little, like dunking the bike or just make it really stupid(er), like "Stairs Ultimate", which has 640 steps that change color and a troll face.

1A - I struggle with this too but realise that there is no way to be 100% creative and innovative when it comes to obstacles. I mean It is essentially a 2D game which limits obstacle options itself. ie bunnyhop over a gap. It has been done to death, the important thing is if you incorporate and execute it well for YOUR track. Remixing ideas is discouraged in this day and age but really this is the best way to progress forward. Just don't be a tosser like the guy who ripped off SATCH's decor EXACTLY after Satch showed him how to make it up on twitch (minimum ask politely XD )

1B - To avoid repeating the same obstacles, jot down YOUR favorite obstacles from trials and get a list going. Try mixing those into your track in a meaningful way.

2 - A little planning can go a long way. Try to feel how you want the various aspect of the track change over its length; altitude, player speed and driveline curves etc. Grab a piece of scrap paper and try some graphs of these things, if they are straight this is a good indicator that you have a 'flat track in the works'.
IMO a flat-ramp track is going to be more typical of an easy difficulty track so this could be part of why you are getting this.

I generally have large gaps between my builds, but usually I start with a simple theme idea and develop from there. Since just about every theme has been done already and you can't be 100% original with obstacles, I just focus on making the theme and line interesting to me. Ideas, I like combining themes that I've found interesting from in game and TC. Of course this was easier in Evo, but I still do it now.
