I always thought skinning had been turned off with Elephants - Some of the info I found on that can be viewed in THIS thread.

Maybe they changed their policy or they are clueless that Elephants can still be skinned in the game after saying they couldn't be.
Weird, then I don't get that. Some animals in certain parts of the world are treated as sacred, and it was sounding at first like Ubi was on the same page with them. Makes me wonder what that trip over there for their crew was REALLY like.

Elephants are no threat to man unless provoked, and are not predators and very useful. When it was said they can be killed I thought it meant by NPCs, not players. Yeah I know some people want to be able to do any crazy **** they want in a game, but this is Far Cry, not GTA.

I can see having enemy troops kill them if they're charging into their camp, or even poachers, which could also make for good side quests making them pay for their slaughter, but there's no reason to have it so players can just shoot them dead for their hide or for thrills. That is poaching and slaughtering, not to mention very atypical of someone indigenous to the area.
