LOL, I'm afraid our environmental policy wouldn't allow that

The only reason I initially got into Far Cry was the editor. So yeah, I agree.

    Same here.

The In Game Awesome Map Editor (IGAME) takes a good FPS with a great Single Player Campaign and the IGAME adds a HUGE (Highly Underrated Gaming Extra) element to the complete package of what your buck buys you.

The open world Single Player has been fantastic throughout all of the Far Cry's. The format of being open world, make your own choices, do things how you want to will always be better than the linear campaign levels of some other (well-known) FPS games.

The map editor has always provided a splendid platform for creativity and a massive amount of map variation for multi player matches.

The multi-player system has been sporadic, and its this area which I think needs a few bucks throwing at it to create a system that players like. The FC2 MP way of hosting a list of player made maps and having host priviledges worked really well.. Players liked it and they still like it to this day.. you will find people hosting matches on FC2 today (cant really say that about the FC3 MP which is 5 years newer).

I agree with the OP that the map editor in FC3, althought more colourful and with some great paints and brushes, had alot of faults with draw-distance, some buildings were not right, you could see through some walls from one side but not the other. I also found some objects had some kind of invisible force field around them where you couldnt shoot through what was supposedly fresh air.. The big white house couldnt be shot out of.. even from the balcony. Some wall and floor pieces could be seen through from one side. The explosives were greatly reduced compared to FC2. The guns were a bit slower compared to FC2 with less accuracy and sniper swaying and slower reload speed. (M1903 compared to any sniper rifle in FC3). Also quick-scoping was made alot more difficult which I dont see as being a good thing. Vehicles were missing.. the list goes on.

The objects mostly were not geometrically correct and as in every Far Cry, just about every object has bits sticking out of it or are not entirely flat, square or level. A few things I'm sure alot of mappers would like adding to the map editor would be some elemental objects such as planes of glass, rectangular brick wall pieces, interior wallpapers for walls and more basic stuff with straight edges, that could be manipulated to use generically as building blocks for just about anything.

What was a very good addition to the FC3 map editor was the lighting - lights being able to be placed into the map albeit affecting the map weight alot. The textures and paints were very good - alot more brushes for different trees, plants and rocks. I also really liked the expansion with the Blood Dragon editor pieces and I really thought that finally Ubi were listening to the community and giving us a bonus. The only problem then was that by that point, nobody played FC3 MP due to the lousy matchmaking etc..

The map-hole tool was a welcome addition to assist us make underground tunnels etc. and the tools generally were still very easy to use, and generally we could still make great maps and work around any immediate problems in creating maps.

I think we will always have some challenges with the map editor, but I wholly agree that it is the map editor which really sets this game apart from the likes of COD, Borderlands, Battelfield and the like. Other editors in other games really don't have the edge and Far Cry / Ubisoft could really capitalise on it if they bring to the table something that :-

    1) doesnt restrict what we want to create

    2) allows us to host our creations effortlessly

And then market the hell out of the map editor - "The power of creativity. Make your own multiplayer etc etc."

Good post Sab ! I enjoyed the editor, always room for improvement but overall it was pretty complete.

I hope they take it seriously this time, like you said it is a great marketing tool which can make this game last for years.

If you ask me ,user generated content is the future. Look at the succes of minecraft and little big planet. So ubisoft should focus much more on the editor and keep the user in mind while designin the items. In fc3 they totally forgot that. Many floor/wall items did not have a shadow. The drawing distance of many large items was terrible. And the items where oversized. So to the designers your not alone playing with this stuff !

Ojah and give us all the items this time around, NOT half !!. (With just white cars and grey barrels) that was pretty lame

    Exactly.

In fact the more tools and assets they give us, the better and more varied will be the creations. With just a few more tools they could give us the first trully modable game on a console.

    Very true! (surv1val )

If I would only play singleplayer or multiplayer I could choose any other game as well. Editor is the main thing that makes this game special and unique.

Good to know , looking forward to play it!
I also hope to meet u again when i am hosting my latest maps . I remember u gived me feedback about my evened odds that the second tower of that map needs a faster way to go down.
Wel on my newest map ( fallout) there are high towers , and all towers got fast ways up (elevators) and fast way down (jumping in holes that ends up in basements with water.)
I listen to the feedback about my maps to improve them. Only the problem i have is that i cant finish my maps anymore, i allways end up ' c'ant place any objects anymore'
I also have created a amusement park with a loopingcoaster that works.

The escape map 'space' is my favorite one folowed by the 'sewer' escape map.

I hope u understand my english , i know it sux.
