The naming convention is so that we can find tracks when we are judging them. Instead of searching for each individual track we can search for TTJ2C and find all the entries for that platform. If your track does not use this naming convention we cannot guarantee that it will be played when the tracks are being judged.

That's awful, man. Sorry to hear that. The name thing is not an immediate DQ, just wanted to to let everyone know it's there for a reason. If there are only a few entries that don't use it we can manage but if a lot of people decide it's not a problem it actually does become a problem for us. We have a very limited time after the closing of the submission period to review all the entries and select the 5 finalists so we need to be able to easily find all the tracks. Of course it's also not just for us. If anybody at home wants to see all the submission they can also just search the tag and see everything. I'll keep in mind your situation as we judge round 1 tracks.Originally Posted by kidmpc Go to original post

Just been checking out the tracks so far with BlueBadger. Great stuff, really nice efforts from everybody.
One more thing to note about the naming convention. If you add special characters, like for example quotation marks before the TTJ2C tag it also affects the ability to find it in search. Tracks should start with TTJ2C, nothing else before. After you can type anything you want (within the decency limits set by platforms) but the first 5 characters of your track name should be TTJ2C if you want us to find it during the judging phase.

I managed to catch a glimpse of some Jam tracks when shogun and badger played them here at the studio, and I gotta say that they look impressive!
Some important advice from RL sound guys though: be careful with sound effect volume levels. Most sounds have been created to work well at 100% or under. More volume should only be used if you really cannot hear a sound properly due to other noises in a track. At that point you should maybe also consider lowering the volume levels overall.
When using neutral headphones or speakers while mixing, it is a good starting point to keep most sounds in balance so that you can just and just distinguish everything. After that you should consider what sounds need to stand out and which don't, and boost the important ones just a little bit, 10-20%. If you're using just standard headphones or speakers (not made for mixing and possibly have some bass boost by default), loud noises are even more distinct, especially with a subwoofer. I've played through many tracks that I have enjoyed a lot until a sudden planet explosion sound at 200% volume destroys my ear canals and ruins the whole experience that had been built up to that point. Less is more!
I also recommend that you test your track sounds with another pair of headphones or speakers before submitting it. I usually do my own mixes with headphones (balanced), then I move on to speakers (speaker character, room ambience and subwoofer affect the sound), then tv (lower quality built-in speakers) and then do a one final check. This guarantees a better sound experience for more players.
