Greetings everyone! Lillestoel here, and I figured I'd do a thread on the game modes I hope to see in Far Cry 4! We already know the map editor is making a return, and I think it's fair to guess vehicles will return as well after the strong feedback after Far Cry 3
So, of course, Team Deathmatch, Domination and Capture the Diamond are pretty much obligatory for casual gamers, and these are pretty much safe modes to add to the game and we can all play these by easily dropping in and out, but with the map editor and potentially vehicles should introduce a few new game modes as well IMO. I've been thinking about this for a while, and I was considering making a video about it, but I thought I'd post a thread first to see what people think of these ideas.
Hunters VS Hunters
Basically a game mode where two teams are playing against each other, but instead of focusing on killing each other down on small maps, the goal is to cooperate with your team mates to hunt down animals. An Elephant might give your team 250 points, a Tiger 150 points, a Deer 50 points and an enemy player 25 points
For this mode players could create huge maps and place whatever animals they may want to add, on strategic locations. Players in the game could prioritize sniping with a silencer, or maybe a crossbow to not get detected by the animals (as well as enemy players). Would also be cool if animals left footprints in the ground, but I'm assuming this would be an all new feature they would have to make for the game and implement, so I'm not sure how realistic that is.
Transport
If FC4 supports vehicles online, this game mode would be an awesome way to utilize them. Lets say, each team spawns with 5 vehicles at their HQ. You can add different types of vehicles to your map, maybe a Jeep with low speed but high carry capacity, and a Buggy with high speed, but reduced carry capacity. The goal in this mode is to grab gold bars scattered across the map and transport them back to your teams HQ. Players can pick up these gold bars, but when carrying gold bars, you move very slowly, so you have to load them into a vehicle, so players have to strategically use all their vehicles. Of course, the enemy team can try to intercept an enemy convoy carrying gold bars, but if they fail, time has been wasted. When creating a map to support this game mode, you have to place spawn points for both teams and a HQ crate for each team, then you can also place gold bars across the map in whatever quantity you may wish. Maybe there is 5 locations with 25 gold bars at each location on your map, but then there is a static barge in the middle of the ocean with 100 gold bars on it, so to obtain the jackpot, players must strategically use teamwork to have the bars transported by boat from the barge to land, then to be picked up by a team mate with a land vehicle all the way back to the base. Sounds interesting? =)
This mode will strongly promote teamplay, it will be very different from everything else, it will be intense and I think it would be a LOT OF FUN =D
What do you guys think of these modes? Please respond, and I might do a video on this with even more modes I've been thinking about on my YouTube channel =D
Sounds nice, definately some good variety in there. FC3 had something similair like your transport mode in co-op were you had to pick up the bomb in a water jet and drop it off somewhere.
Hopefully we get to do stuff like this ourselves in the editor. All shooters seem quite the same nowadays.
Nice post !
I like to just jump in and play where I can leave whenever I want - I believe that as important as TDM is (The damn snipers love that mode) I believe that Solo DM is just as important.
Even if FC3 had used custom lobbies and given us better hosting options IMO they got the spawns wrong, those Global Spawns (Red / Blue) only worked once then we switched to the White Custom Spawns so we had no control on saying where a team or player would spawn - I think that it ruined most maps, they should have used Custom Spawns separate for each team because the last thing you want is players from the opposite team spawning straight into an area where they should travel and fight their way in (Thats my opinion anyhow)
And to see Last man Standing where a killed player takes a third person view and can switch between the remaining live players until only one remains - That would be a fun match I believe.
I think that CTF should always be in the Far Cry games it is so popular & FCIP had Seek and Secure, which resembles Call of Duty 2's HQ mode, IMO that is way better than Uprising in FC2 and also Transmission and Domination in FC3.
At the end of the day, any mode that is not TDM will be dead after a few weeks, we see this with most fps games (apart from battlefield) TDM will be where 90% of players are, so all other modes are just fillers to make up the mode numbers so tdm doesn't look lonely on it's own. it's a shame because i like domination but thats just how things are gonna turn out, as they always do with many games.
Well I know you see a lot of stuff through Rose Tinted Spectacles ALS & you are entitled to your opinion but the wording is wrong.Originally Posted by AW LOST SOLDIER Go to original post
TDM will always be the most popular mode and I will say again that I see it more as a sniper heavy mode with what I witnessed in FC2 & FC3 the reason is because you have no objectives other than killing, you don't have to push to get anywhere simply camp and repeat.
The Clans in Predator always played TDM unless they wanted to torture some poor suckers when they would often tear it up in DM mode - I can tell you this on FC2 CTD was a successful mode as was Deathmatch (solo) But I will agree that TDM has way more people playing and hosting.
To say that all other modes will be dead within a few weeks is just a pathetic statement if I am honest although it could have been true with FC3 but then there was no lobby system and again my opinion is that the other modes they did were badly done and each other mode played out in full no matter how good you were the Transmission and Domination matches ran to the end with Fire Storm been an a mode where you could end the match early but that was more often because one team didn't have a clue what was going on.
With Predator the actual Predator mode had its own cult following and STS mode (CTF) was extremely popular - so lets wait and see with FC4 I am hopeful that we will get something fun and different.
A few weeks we say is three weeks.
You are right, but we will still need something on the side. something cooperative like a zombie mode that we can create ourselves or the stuff that Lillestoel suggested.Originally Posted by AW LOST SOLDIER Go to original post
Just the basic game modes would be fine with me, the best from fc2 and fc3 some zombies and that glowstick from predator could do a lot of good things for FC4.
Multiplayer
Get a taste of Kyrat's embattled history in a brand new adversarial multiplayer mode. Play as a heavily armed soldier of the Golden Path rebellion, or as a member of the ancient Kalinag warrior tribe equipped with the lethal power of nature.
Well that is what is listed with the game for Multiplayer but they have said we will get Competitive Multiplayer with the Usual Modes - that might only be in User made maps (who knows) I think there will be significant changes, lets hope that it works because Uprising in FC2 was a huge flop all because only the captain could capture the points, maybe not so bad but on consoles we could not choose a captain in the lobby, If any player could have captured the points then when all were captured you had a set limit to kill the captain to end the match before the capture points reset it could have been fun, and to stop the Captain hiding somewhere his location could have been monitored with an icon above him only after the points were captured - His team would then have top protect him until the points reset or they would lose.
As for TDM I could easily never play that mode again but you guys are correct in that most people choose it but you have to mix things up otherwise it is all just so boring going through the motions.
In Pred you could capture stations in some vehicles which made it interesting and in CTF (They called it steal the sample) you could throw the sample, again it gave a lot of options.
