Why Ubi need to push the MP

Before we get into this, I happily admit I know zilch about marketting, my thoughts here are in the context of a consumer. How 'average' my thoughts process is remains moot

I'm not going to go into all the why's and wherefore's of FC3's lack-lustre performance, they have been gone over many a time, but even Ubi acknowledge they dropped the ball last time around. Most gamers now regard FC as a superb single player experience, but not to be taken seriously as a multiplayer game at all. a lot of them won't even have played FC2 or the earlier games, they're gonna need some convincing!

What I'm wondering, is how will this effect release sales, and therefore player population for FC4. The game comes out in the run up to christmas, so will a significant proportion of people be thinking along the lines of 'well I loved FC3 SP so I definitely want it, but I'll add it to my pressie list, it can wait till then, the MP really wasn't worth much'.

This could reduce population, interest, buzz etc as the game is released, and by the time everyone opens their xmas pressies the population has dwindled even more.

I think that Ubi really need to regain trust and confidence for FC (watchdogs didn't help, sorry guys but it's true) and right now, the tiny drip feed of info we're getting regarding the editor and MP isn't helping with that. Too many might equate 'they ain't telling us much' with 'they didn't tell us much prior to FC3 too... hmmm...'

We do need more info this time around Ubi, and I think we need it sooner. Don't worry about me, I'm getting this on release day anyway (yeah yeah I'm a fool ) but I think a lot of people felt burned last time and we'd very much appreciate having our concerns laid to rest

Nice write up Muppet, I really hope they step up their game soon.

Competition will be fierce and UBI's personal approach to their customers isn't the best. Bungie really set the tone for the future of FPS with Destiny, I can understand why they are going for a 10 year run with that, lots more heavy hitters incoming so it will be interesting to see.

I hope fc4 mp has a good population that will last longer than a few months, november is a hard time to release up against cod advanced warfare. after playing the destiny beta, i dont think destiny will have any affect on fc4 multiplayer, after spending a few hours with it, ive come to the conclusion that destiny looks ok, but it's gameplay is dull and boring, it's almost mind numbing.

Do you intend to play FC4 Multiplayer ALS ?
With Far Cry 2 you made some nice maps but mostly appeared to host under dedicated, I know you were a big fan of the cameras in that game which allowed the host to watch over the map to see how things played.

FC2 had some traditional MP modes but had a few issues however it had great hosting / match options, I am sure you didn't play MP very much though.
With FC3 it was difficult to host because we had to invite players in every time - I know you used to be big into map stats, I just wondered if you plan on playing a lot more in FC4 if they serve up an enjoyable MP.

At the risk of going off topic (look the other way Mr shade!) I totally agree about destiny, I did a review pretty much saying that, but most comments seemed to be poro-destiny, maybe see what ya think?

I am sure we would all agree that Ubi needs to push the multiplayer but looking back to FC2 it was only one month before the games release when they showed us a vid of the multiplayer, and they didn't show the editor until Pax Prime with FC2 which also released in November.

So I can't see them deviating from a schedule they might already have for releasing info and there will also be magazines and journalists who are no doubt promised to get a scoop before info is released in the community forums but I would think some things could be passed over which would boost peoples spirits in a big way.

    1. If vehicles are allowed in user created maps for multiplayer and maybe even in this rumored mission creator then would it be that bad tor someone to come out and say just that ? after all that brought about one of the biggest backlashes when people found out they could not use vehicles in their maps so if anything it would create a buzz.

    2. To simply say that standard PVP multiplayer will grant the host options where they have better control over the match they are hosting and will also allow the players looking for a match to see what modes and maps are available and who the host is and in the lobby can change sides - if those are possible with FC4 again it isn't really giving out anything seen as critical as all MP games should have similar options so that alone would create a bit of a frenzy IMO and would open eyes because that alone is what killed off FC3's MP - so if anyone on here that reads this has any clout I would say get the word out because otherwise we just keep seeing frustration and speculation which is not good in the forums, I am trying to look forward and get excited but it's difficult with little to no info filtering through.

Just that image above showing the new makeover for Zanzibar from the Halo 2 remake now has me thinking should I wait longer as I am still a little undecided on PS4 so can this swing me into XB1 territory.

An image can do so much - imagine just 1 image from a MP map or even one line of text stating that with FC4 we won't be hampered on consoles by the number of items we place in a single grid square as we were with FC3 - Anything along those lines would go a long long way.

I can't wait for more SP info but MP will be where I spend most of my FC4 time after completing the game.

(Oh and Muppet - thanks for the Destiny review, cheers for the honesty, so many believe the hype)

Champ i do intend to play fc4. i only hosted dedicated servers most of the time in fc2 because it felt like running through quicksand when you run in fc2. but i played fc3 quite a bit. my fc3 stats below.

    fc3 stats
    hours played - 104
    kills 8609
    rank/level 75

Yeah I agree, I'm certainly not asking for a full reveal, I doubt they'd deviate from their planned strategy

I'd expect a MASSIVE buzz from this!

Yup. I generally play SP a little while, but then hanker for some banter, some competition, some lulz and laffs

Thanks bud, bear in mind it's just one muppets opinion, there do seem a lot who disagree with me!

Hopefully you'll consider th ePS4, would be great to team up with you come release

The turning & player movement was really bad in FC2 I agree, and that blurred vision when sprinting after a few seconds - what were they thinking
I am sure we will bump into each other with FC4 if we end up onthe same console at any point.

With player stats I have no interest, I just like to get in and have a match when I can - I am more into the moment so if I do well in a match I am happy, I liked it when they brought the patch out for FC2 which allowed you to set the diamonds and select any weapon.

It did feel repetitive after a while, allthough I did enjoy myself for a long time on a Beta with a very smooth fast phased MP. Destiny will be a game that you need to dedicate yourself to. What did concern me is that it felt very unpersonal, not sure what I mean by that but perhaps others players can relate to this.

The danger with a hype is that you will always come out dissapointed.
