Posibility of an Open Beta, à la Destiny?

Unsure if it's been asked here yet, but I have my fingers crossed for an open beta.

I'm sure actual hands-on gameplay will help convince a few of my buddies to join up.

Hope someone from the Dev team will comment!

There hasn't been any news on pre-release testing or demos yet.

There, most definitely will be some sort of beta/demo thing in the future...Unless ofcourse TD is gonna end up just like all other overhyped, rip-off games.

I to have my fingers cross, I really hope they do release a demo. I want to test this game since I already have it preordered. I want to feel extra good that my hard earn 63.00 bucks went to a f****** good game.

WHY?! Why the hell would you pre-order?! Especially so soon, when no actual gameplay footage is available?! Not even pre-order bonuses are known, yet! So why?! WHY?!

Closed game play with a legal notice

If they want to keep it secret but make it possible to actually do some tests with the customers then they should do similar to ESO. There was an agreement stating that releasing any of the content by recording or other means of showing to public, the gameplay that you would be held legally responsible for breaking the contract and you would be sued (don't quote me this isn't word for word this is just what I got from reading the agreement). My reason for this being the option of beta or demo is so that the YouTube community doesn't destroy the suspense of the gameplay for those who don't get the game until release, or the ones that make the videos that show how they are part of the beta and kind of rubbing it in some peoples faces. Beta testing one way or another would be nice so that people that want the game can see what the game is gonna be like.

Yep that was 1 year closed and open beta, and 4 month after lunch we had still a broken game with lagspikes, unplayable classes and a completely demotivating game progression (Vet Levels) because even basic bugs weren't fixed DURING beta - but that is another story.

I'm for a alpha/beta - testing, especially on such a huge a tactical PVP shooter like The Division. Closed or not, they should do that, because there are already very powerful skills in the game (seeker mine) and they have to be carefully balanced - because when the OP-Screaming starts in the forum, it only results in panic mode, bad fixes and broken skills...

because I want to, and wasn't the E3 2014 & 2013 gameplay footage. And if there's any pre order bonuses I can just go and upgrade with out worry about where I'm going to get the money. Some of us do have families and bills to pay.

This is called a "Non Disclosure Agreement". Most closed betas come with them, and you're not legally allowed to talk about the beta or take and screenshots or video for distribution outside of other beta testers.

Technically The Crew had an NDA when it first started. That didn't stop people from posting in the wrong sections of the forums and creating YouTube videos and the like. The only way Ubisoft could of prevented that would of been to take legal action against every single person who broke their NDA. Not only would this be hugely costly and/or time consuming but it would make Ubisoft look bad for prosecuting a bunch of their own customers.

Closed betas that remain successfully secret are typically held in extremely limited numbers.

If we get a beta/demo before release it'll probably be either very hush-hush on the down-low, or open application/invite only without an NDA. They can limit the content that they don't want broadcast all over YouTube in the game itself.
