Are online server costs an issue?

    Hi,

    Just wondering,

It seems developers and studios wait for their profits to roll in from sales before being able to fund a budget for servers. When games have a delay on bringing their titles and servers online, is it a technical or financial issue?

    Hello,

    Nothing related to that.

    Which server is offline/not responding?

    Cheers,

Agreed, I think 8 times out of 10 with big companies who have technical capabilities it is a business decision.

If they wanted to minimise these issues a well planned alpha and beta programme like bungie is trying now could be used.

The reason is that Ubisoft servers are horrible. With the pointless addition of the horrendously bad uPlay it makes it worse.

I play on X1 and why they aren't using Microsoft's dedicated Azure servers that Microsoft are providing for everyone is beyond stupid.

the biggest advantage of the ubi servers is that it gives us a crossplatform track central and thats a pretty big one imo

I'm pretty sure that's the only advantage, but with TC being broken and the servers going down non-stop I find it hard to play this game.

To be fair Azure is not exactly free and even then I highly doubt its a flat cost for as many servers as you need at any given time so it may not solve anything anyway. There's certainly issues, but cross platform and more autonomy/control are pretty big advantages. Not making excuses for any of the problems, but I'd rather wait for this to be working smoothly as in the long term the game really needs these advantages if it's going to have the longevity we expect from it. Just hope all the ground work done with Fusion makes the transition to the next Trials game alot smoother.

I would imagine that relying on MS servers would mean that any server changes have to go through MS and are therefore not completely under RL/Ubisoft control. Remember how long many server issues affected Evo at times? On MS servers? Perhaps that is part of the decision to NOT use MS servers? I dont know, I am just theorising.
